Edwin Stone, executive director of CIBC Capital Markets, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in finance and investments.
Mr. Stone is distinguished for his contributions as an experienced professional in finance and investments. Since 2022, he has served as the executive director of energy and infrastructure at CIBC Capital Markets in New York. Affiliated with the organization since 2020, he was initially hired as the director of energy and infrastructure. Mr. Stone’s role today enables him to continue collaborating with clients, which results in raising capital aimed at growing and expanding platform companies associated with or advised by larger private equity firms, institutional sponsors and investors. Additionally, he focuses on securing structured solutions that enhance yields or optimize capital across these platforms’ balance sheets.
Leveraging the wealth of expertise he received from previous positions, Mr. Stone was the IBG vice president of corporate finance and credit structuring at Mizuho Bank, Mizuho Americas LLC, in New York City, from 2016 to 2020. Among his numerous responsibilities, he was tasked with structuring and underwriting new client credit and capital markets opportunities for highly complex strategic financings.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Stone served as an IBG associate of corporate banking and credit restructuring at BMO Capital Markets, BMO Financial Group, in the Greater New York City area between 2012 and 2015. During this time, he successfully structured and executed approximately $900 million in new lending commitments. Additionally, Mr. Stone was a public finance banker at MBIA Inc. from 2010 to 2012 and was a global wealth management group consultant at Morgan Stanley between 2009 and 2010.
In preparation for his future, Mr. Stone received an undergraduate degree in political science and philosophy from Colby College in 2003. Subsequently, he completed coursework in economics at The London School of Economics and Political Science in 2005 before obtaining a master’s degree in international finance and economic development at New York University in 2009.
Apart from his professional accomplishments, Mr. Stone has been very active civically, having served on the underwriting committee of the board of the habitat community development fund for the Habitat for Humanity of New York City, Habitat for Humanity International, since 2017, after serving in various other roles for the nonprofit charitable organization. Among them, he chaired the young professionals’ board, which was comprised of a network of New York citizens between 21 and 40 devoted to raising awareness, volunteering and giving back from 2016 to 2019. Mr. Stone was also involved in the organization’s hurricane relief fund in New York in 2019.
In light of his hard work, Mr. Stone received the 2023 Deal of the Year Award from CIBC Capital Markets, highlighting the success of two significant deals. The first included a construction warehouse facility for AES Clean Energy, where he structured, arranged and established the facility. The second involved a digital infrastructure transaction for BAI Communications, which specializes in digital infrastructure in the U.S. and provides 5G wireless infrastructure projects across various sectors. Mr. Stone’s expertise in investment and corporate banking, debt capital markets, and project financing infrastructure have been particularly pivotal to his many accomplishments.
