In his position at the New York Liquidation Bureau, Mr. Schiavone oversees business operations, focusing on expenditures, insurance, and business continuity. In addition, he manages fraud investigation, particularly in cases of significant fraudulent claims. As the state liquidator of insurance companies, the New York Liquidation Bureau works for the superintendent of financial services, who operates under the governor. The New York Liquidation Bureau takes over insolvent insurance companies and manages the wind down of the company; resolving outstanding claims, lawsuits, and maximizing asset preservation.
After graduating from Hofstra University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in management, Mr. Schiavone pursued a Master of Business Administration in finance from Adelphi University. He worked in the business and finance industries before developing an interest in writing, which led to him working as a screenwriter in addition to his main career in business. In 2010, he cofounded Heights Productions LLC, a film production company over which he served as executive producer for three years. In 2013, he took a position at the New York Liquidation Bureau as a fraud investigator, rising to his current position in 2019. He enjoys his profession, as it capitalizes on his business skills and creativity while serving to help individuals and the community.
Reflecting on his career, Mr. Schiavone considers a notable time to be the challenges they weathered during the COVID-19 pandemic. Though he had no prior knowledge of infectious diseases or crisis management, he helped lead their COVID-19 Response Team, role he dedicated himself to. At that time, the company had no remote work structure, but as COVID-19 cases began to rise, they were able to get top management working remotely within two weeks, and within two months, the entire company became remote. He is proud that the company experienced no employee losses during this challenging time. He worked tirelessly throughout this process and considered this the most rewarding experience of his career.
Mr. Schiavone attributes his success to his ability to work with others and adapt to any situation. As a continuous learner, he is adept at making decisions based on the information available to him and can identify where to obtain valuable information. He possesses a strong instinct for recognizing system failures, but he remains open to new approaches and techniques. Moving forward, he intends to continue grow his role in the New York Liquidation Bureau. Outside of his career, he supports charitable causes such as Lustgarten Foundation (Pancreatic Cancer Research) and Let’s Win Pancreatic Cancer.
