Michael R. Schiavone

Title: Business Manager
Company: New York Liquidation Bureau
Location: Brooklyn, New York, United States

Michael R. Schiavone, Business Manager at the New York Liquidation Bureau, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in business operations.

In his position at the New York Liquidation Bureau, Mr. Schiavone oversees business operations and expenditures. As the state liquidator of insurance companies, the New York Liquidation Bureau works for the superintendent of financial services, who operates under the governor. When insurance companies become incompetent and can no longer operate, the company steps in to pay claims, settle lawsuits, sell assets and salvage the company’s possible future value. Once complete, the bureau returns a sizable portion of the revenue to the state insurance fund. Mr. Schiavone is responsible for assisting companies in rehabilitation by taking over their insurance coverage programs and ensuring all clients are properly covered with favorable rates. In addition, he plays a limited role in investigating fraud, particularly in cases of significant fraudulent claims, leading the investigations into these claims as needed.

After graduating from Hofstra University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in management, Mr. Schiavone pursued a Master of Business Administration in finance from Adelphi University. He worked in the business and finance industries before developing an interest in writing, which led to him working as a screenwriter in addition to his main career in business. In 2010, he cofounded Heights Productions LLC, a film production company over which he served as executive producer for three years.  Following the birth of his second child, he decided to pursue new career opportunities and joined the New York Liquidation Bureau as a fraud investigator, rising to his current position in 2019. He enjoys his profession, as it capitalizes on his business skills and creativity while serving to help individuals and the community.

Reflecting on his career, Mr. Schiavone considers a notable time to be the leadership challenges he weathered during the COVID-19 pandemic. Though he had no prior knowledge of infectious diseases or crisis management, when his superintendent requested that he lead their COVID-19 Response Team, he dedicated himself to the role. At that time, the company had no remote work structure, but as COVID-19 cases began to rise, Mr. Schiavone suggested they shift as many employees as possible to remote positions. Within a week, all the top management worked remotely, and within two months, the entire company became remote. He is proud to say that the company experienced no employee losses during this challenging time. Throughout the process, he worked tirelessly and considered this experience as one of the most memorable moments of his career.

Mr. Schiavone attributes his success to his ability to work with others and adapt to any situation. As a continuous learner, he is adept at making decisions based on the information available to him and can identify where to obtain valuable information. He possesses a strong instinct for recognizing system failures, but he remains open to new approaches and techniques. Moving forward, he intends to continue to move up in the New York Liquidation Bureau and hopes to one day set the course for the entire organization. Outside of his career, he supports charitable causes such as Pancreatic Cancer Research and Let’s Win Pancreatic Cancer.
