Michael F. McMaster, Chief Executive Officer and Senior Scientist at Pompano Farms LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Marine Fish Farming.
Mr. McMaster, distinguished for his expertise in marine fish farming, has been a leading authority in his field for over 50 years. Managing several businesses throughout his career, he began as a self-employed aquaculture and mariculture professional in 1975 at which time he founded his first private company, Ocean Farming Systems, Inc. In 1984, Mr. McMaster founded Mariculture Technologies International Inc. as the company’s president and owner. Subsequently, Pompano Farms LLC was established in 2008, transitioning into an active consulting business. The last farm owned by Mr. McMaster was recently sold a few years ago, with all its technology transferred to Pompano Farms, LLC.
Mr. McMaster is presently an advisor to a substantial multibillion dollar amusement park project being developed in the U.S.A. He is also involved as an advisor to a significant project in the South Pacific and other locations in the world. Mr. McMaster’s offerings involve transferring the technology and training the buyers and their staff to successfully farm marine fish from start to finish.
For over 20 years, Mr. McMaster was the president and operations manager at Northeast Brine Shrimp, a role that began in 1995. Having first entered the industry at Scripps Institution of Oceanography shortly after graduating college, he became recruited by OMI (Oceanography Mariculture Industries Inc) in Riviera Beach, Florida as their VP for Research and Development. There he developed technology for artificially spawning and fertilizing pompano eggs and larval rearing methods. Later, Mr. McMaster helped establish the world’s first pompano farm in the Dominican Republic in 1972.
In preparation for his future, Mr. McMaster received an Associate of Science from Southwestern College in 1966 and a Bachelor of Science in fisheries science from Utah State University in the college of wildlife biology in 1969. Besides his formal education, he is a certified fishery scientist through the American Fisheries Society, a certified fishery research biologist through the American Institute of Fishery Research Biologist, holds a dive master certification through the National Association of Underwater Instructors and received a master’s captain’s license through the U.S. Coast Guard.
Throughout his career, Mr. McMaster has garnered numerous accomplishments as a marine biologist regarding rearing marine pelagic fish larvae. He also created several technical developments in this area that have never been reproduced anywhere. Having spent nearly half his life underwater exploring and researching. Mr. McMaster completed over 8,000 documented commercial scuba dives on reefs throughout the South Atlantic, Caribbean Sea and Central America before age 50. He has garnered an extensive background in coral reefs during this time, including the impact pollution and human activities has on them.
Mr. McMaster has been a professional member of the World Aquaculture Society for over 55 years. As a seasoned expert, he has contributed several published publications relating to his field. As a leader in his community, Stanford University recruited Mr. McMaster to serve as a judge for various projects in Ukraine, Kenya, Nigeria and various fish farming entrepreneurs worldwide.
In light of his success, Mr. McMaster was recognized by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization as a World Expert, with Honorarium, for the controlled farming of the Florida Pompano in 2016. Now semi-retired, he hopes to witness a profitable pompano farm established in the U.S. during his lifetime. However, current government regulations and cost of doing business prohibit the small-scale economic farming of marine fish in the USA as of April 2025.
