Regina D. Lewis, PhD, founder and chief executive officer of Ashunti Residential Management Systems Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in recovery housing.

Dr. Lewis, chief executive officer of Ashunti Residential Management Systems Inc., a nonprofit organization in Chicago, has been a leader in her industry for decades. Launching her residential multi-social service agency in 1992, she provides hands-on support throughout four facilities, providing up to 24 months of housing and supportive services for men and women experiencing homelessness. These residents can be offenders or former offenders, victims of childhood physical or sexual abuse or rape, victims of domestic violence, those affected with HIV/AIDS, and those with various mental issues. While some are mandated, others voluntarily seek housing. Dr. Lewis’ organization offers specialized health care services, including a behavioral modification program run by psychologists and psychiatrists that counsel youth and adults.

Highly experienced in continuous care, Dr. Lewis frequently assists the state in developing recovery homes. She also serves on numerous committees and manages dozens of organizations to ensure they all remain interconnected to fulfill the broader community vision. Additionally, Dr. Lewis works across various programs to create a model that supports children, seniors and homeless individuals while always making herself available for countless assistance calls. Leveraging her former experience, she was a partner and chief executive officer of New Beginnings Recovery Homes from 1989 to 1992, where she developed and managed its recovery program.

Dr. Lewis holds a bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from Jackson State University in 1983 and a PhD from Larry Love University in 2016. She is also an ordained elder. Throughout her career, Dr. Lewis has secured two federal contracts and two grants, including one $2 million grant to purchase a rehabilitation facility. Among her future plans is to expand Ashunti Residential Management Systems by adding independent housing and permanent housing options along with supportive services to its residents. She also intends to expand into Jackson, Mississippi, where there is a lack of recovery homes for women transitioning out of penitentiaries. Highlighting her many accomplishments, Dr. Lewis has been featured as “Someone You Should Know” by the late Harry Porterfield on Channel 7, received a Jefferson Award for her public service and community impact, and a Hero Community Impact Award from Channel 2.
