His professional trajectory has been marked by significant roles across various organizations, including his current position as the chief executive officer of Bluedrop USA Inc. since 2023. In this capacity, Dr. Ulander oversees financial tracking, strategic partnerships and operations management. Based in Orlando, Florida, Bluedrop USA Inc. specializes in modeling, simulation and training for helicopter and tilt-rotor end-users.
Before serving as the chief executive officer, Dr. Ulander was the vice president of business development at Bluedrop USA Inc. from 2019 to 2020 and the president between 2020 and 2023. His earlier positions included director of business development at Cubic Global Defense from 2018 to 2019. He also excelled as the director of marketing and customer relations at LSI Inc. between 2013 and 2018.
Before transitioning into the corporate world, Dr. Ulander dedicated two decades to the U.S. Navy as a pilot, an experience he regards as one of his proudest achievements. His military service laid the groundwork for his subsequent roles, including assistant vice president at SAIC from 2007 to 2011 and director of military programs at OPINICUS Corporation between 2011 and 2013. Dr. Ulander began his career as the officer in charge at the Naval Aviation Schools Command from 1983 to 2003, followed by a stint as the director of crew resource management at Organizational Strategies Inc. until 2007.
Dr. Ulander’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in behavioral and social sciences from the University of Maryland in 1982, following his graduation from Charles W. Woodward High School in 1975. Additionally, he earned a Doctor of Psychology from California Coast University, further enhancing his academic credentials. These foundations have been instrumental in shaping Dr. Ulander’s leadership skills and strategic thinking, which have been pivotal throughout his career.
Dr. Ulander’s commitment to excellence is further evidenced by his professional designations, including a project management professional certification from the Project Management Institute Inc. in 2006 and completion of a flight and ground simulation course at Binghamton University in 2012.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. Ulander is actively involved in several industry-related organizations. He has served as an advisor to the board of directors of the Orlando Chapter of the VR/AR Association since 2019 and as the secretary on the executive board of directors for the National Center for Simulation since 2024. Dr. Ulander’s past roles include serving as the president of the First Coast chapter of the National Defense Industrial Association from 2017 to 2020 and as the former chair of the executive committee for the National Training and Simulation Association from 2013 to 2023.
Dr. Ulander’s dedication extends beyond his professional life into civic engagement. He is a member of his local church, volunteers on the security team at Hibernia Baptist Church, and is a donor to CHOICES in Orlando.
In light of his contributions, Dr. Ulander has been recognized with several awards, including a Gold Medal for Leadership from the National Defense Industrial Association in 2020, a Veterans of Influence Award by the Orlando Business Journal in 2023, and a Helicopter Industry Influencer Award in 2025. He attributes much of his success to his father’s guidance about doing one’s best, which has driven him throughout his life. Additionally, Dr. Ulander’s personal experiences, particularly those during his time in aviation school with a close friend who was also an instructor, have profoundly influenced his growth and commitment to excellence.
