Chris Vandersluis, co-founder and chief executive officer of HMS Software, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in software technology.

Mr. Vandersluis has been a leader on the cutting edge of the software technology industry for more than 40 years. His career started in 1983 when he co-founded HMS Software, where he serves as chief executive officer to this day. Mr. Vandersluis also became a partner at Welcom Software in 1984, where he later took on the role of vice president of sales. Demonstrating his insight and leadership in the field, he has also been a partner at such major industry organizations as Primavera, Deltek, Oracle and Microsoft.

Since its inception in 1984, HMS Software has been one of the most popular companies in the world for time sheet and project management system software. As chief executive officer, Mr. Vandersluis leads the entire business operations for the company, including collaborating with developers, marketing and sales. Under his guidance, the organization published the first edition of TimeControl in 1994, which proved to be a major career highlight for Mr. Vandersluis. TimeControl, a popular time sheet program that helps companies manage large employee bases, has been iterated on and improved for over 30 years. This software has been utilized by such major companies as Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD), Azuria Water Solutions, CAE Inc., Foster Wheeler, Interpol, Volvo Nova Bus and Zoetis.

Concurrently with his work at HMS Software, Mr. Vandersluis stepped into the position of chief executive officer of EPM Guidance LLC, another company he founded, in 2017. Similarly involved in project management, EPM Guidance offers consulting and executive training for portfolio and project managers. Mr. Vandersluis also maintains a regularly updated blog on the EPM Guidance website, expanding on his approach to business and providing potential clients with a glimpse of the expertise he brings to bear.

Mr. Vandersluis has been a member of several important organizations relevant to his field. Among them, he draws on the Project Management Institute and the Project Management and Business Analyst Conferences for information. Mr. Vandersluis also maintains membership in the McGill Alumni Association. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics from McGill University in 1982.

A prolific writer and speaker, Mr. Vandersluis regularly presents at Project Management Institute events and has contributed to more than 200 articles across a variety of magazines and journals. Among others, he has been an author, columnist or editor to such publications as Canadian Defense Quarterly, Delphi Informant Magazine, Fortune Magazine, Heavy Construction News, Ivey Business Journal and Project UK Magazine. From 2005 to 2015, Mr. Vandersluis penned a recurring feature titled “From the Trenches on Microsoft Technet.” He also wrote the 2004 and 2014 editions of the American Management Association (AMA) Handbook of Project Management.

In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. Vandersluis is a devoted husband and a loving father to three children. When he’s not working or spending time with his family, he enjoys traveling and is an avid reader, especially of nonfiction. In the immediate future, Mr. Vandersluis intends to focus on supporting his children as they complete their education. Meanwhile, he plans for continued growth for both HMS Software and EPM Guidance LLC. Mr. Vandersluis envisions setting both organizations up for ongoing success while establishing a second home for himself in Canada, splitting time evenly between the two countries. He believes this shift will also open his companies up to new clients and opportunities.
