James P. Grabowski, Vice President at Mended Hearts Chapter 350, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements and leadership in Nonprofit Management.

Mr. Grabowski has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to service, innovation and leadership across multiple fields. Over the past few years, he has served as the vice president of Mended Hearts Chapter 350, where he has been instrumental in transforming the organization’s approach to heart health advocacy. Recognizing the limitations of focusing solely on automated external defibrillators, Mr. Grabowski initiated a heart scan program that provides affordable calcium scoring scans to detect early signs of heart disease. Under his guidance, the program has conducted more than 8,000 scans, partnering with local law enforcement, fire departments and health care providers, such as Riverview Health Foundation and Hamilton Heart Cardiology in Noblesville. Mr. Grabowski’s efforts have directly contributed to lifesaving interventions and increased awareness of preventative cardiac care.

Before his work with Mended Hearts, Mr. Grabowski dedicated 40 years to the aircraft engines sector as an aeronautical engineer. Throughout his engineering career, he managed teams comprising engineers, hourly employees and junior staff, fostering collaboration and professional growth. Mr. Grabowski’s technical expertise is reflected in his portfolio of numerous U.S. patents and two world patents, underscoring his contributions to advancements in aeronautical technology.

In addition to his engineering achievements, Mr. Grabowski has maintained a passion for aviation as a private pilot for 45 years. This pursuit fulfilled a personal dream and furthered his understanding of aeronautics beyond the professional sphere.

Mr. Grabowski’s academic foundation was established at the Aerospace Institute, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering in 1959. He completed this rigorous program in just two and a half years while working full time. Mr. Grabowski’s educational background provided the technical acumen necessary for his engineering innovations and later informed his approach to project management and nonprofit leadership. He also holds a project management certificate.

Civic involvement has been a hallmark of Mr. Grabowski’s life. He served several years as the president of a local Kiwanis group, leading fundraising efforts for children’s programs, such as pancake breakfasts in partnership with Noblesville High School students. His leadership extended to roles as a Cub Scouts leader, Boy Scouts leader, and coach for Catholic Youth Organization football and baseball. As a past president of Singers in Noblesville and a former member of the Noblesville Community Council for the school system, he contributed to cultural enrichment and educational advocacy within his community.

Mr. Grabowski also played an active role in training personnel at the Noblesville Police Department, Fire Department and Sheriff’s Department, further demonstrating his commitment to public safety and well-being. His commitment to faith and service was evident as an elder at First Christian Church. These experiences have shaped his values and reinforced his dedication to community engagement.

In light of his hard work, Mr. Grabowski has been recognized with several honors, including the Cheers to our Champions: 2024 MHI National Award, recognition as Volunteer of the Year by Mended Hearts, and a Regional Award from Mended Hearts for his outstanding contributions to cardiac health awareness.

Reflecting on his success, Mr. Grabowski overcame early adversity by setting ambitious goals for himself, purchasing his first home at age 21, and marrying shortly thereafter. He credits much of his success to the unwavering support of his wife, who raised their children while teaching preschool for 40 years.

In retirement, Mr. Grabowski has remained active by volunteering at Riverview Health Hospital over the past five years, amassing 3,500 hours assisting with patient transportation and training others in this vital role. He finds fulfillment in meeting new people through these activities while maintaining an active lifestyle.
