He assists companies in buying and selling businesses, writes and publishes in his area of expertise with the support of editorial and research teams, and organizes 25 events annually, managing all aspects from registrations to travel logistics. Mr. Swanepoel also ensures that all departments remain on target and within budget, while collaborating with the chief executive officer on planning and hiring, interacting with high-profile clients, and leading daily operations with a focus on strategic planning, coordination and communication.
Mr. Swanepoel’s authorship stands as a cornerstone of his career. He is recognized as one of the most published real estate authors in U.S. history, with over 55 books to his name. His works have achieved placements on the New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller lists and have garnered significant accolades, including the Robert Bruss Award for Book of the Year (gold medal) from the National Association of Real Estate Editors as well as multiple silver and bronze AXIOM business book of the year awards. Mr. Swanepoel’s influence is further underscored by his recognition as one of the most influential figures in real estate, reflecting his commitment to guiding professionals through complex market dynamics.
Before stepping into entrepreneurship, Mr. Swanepoel served as the vice president and then president of an American global franchisor between 1994 and 1997. As such, he was responsible for overseeing company operations, driving business growth and implementing strategic initiatives that contributed to the organization’s success.
Mr. Swanepoel earned a Bachelor of Science in quantity surveying from the University of Pretoria, completed in 1981, followed by a Master of Commerce in business economics from the University of Johannesburg in 1990. Further enhancing his expertise, Mr. Swanepoel completed the executive leadership program in mergers and acquisitions at the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1997. These academic achievements have supported his ability to navigate complex business environments and deliver innovative solutions within the real estate sector.
During his career, Mr. Swanepoel has contributed as an author or co-author to numerous works, including “Surviving Your Serengeti: 7 Skills to Master Business and Life,” published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc., in 2011, and “Swanepoel Technology Report,” an exhaustive study that has been published every year since 2006. He also conceptualized and subsequently annually compiled the “Swanepoel Power 200,” the “Mega 1000” and the “Real Estate Almanac.” The Swanepoel name became widely recognized with trends and strategy when, in 2015, on behalf of the National Association of Realtors, Mr. Swanepoel singlehandedly authored a nationwide introspective study that culminated in the landmark DANGER Report, the most comprehensive and insightful analysis ever conducted on the challenges and future of the real estate industry.
