Title: Chief Executive Officer
Company: Spier Electric LLC
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States
John M. Spier, chief executive officer of Spier Electric LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in electrical contracting.
Growing up as a nerdy art student, Mr. Spier never imagined working within a trade. After graduating from high school in 2007, he initially intended to pursue a career in architecture. However, Mr. Spier was invited by chance to join Mosher Enterprises, an electrical contracting and engineering company, where he quickly discovered a passion for the field. His interest was fostered by Jerry Mosher, the owner of Mosher Enterprises, who offered Mr. Spier numerous opportunities and mentorship as he progressed.
Though he started from the very bottom as an apprentice, Mr. Spier swiftly ascended into roles of greater responsibility. Across 10 years with Mosher Enterprises, he was promoted to journeyman, superintendent, estimator, assistant project manager and finally, project manager. During this time, Mr. Spier also completed coursework in electrical trades at Central New Mexico Community College. After leaving Mosher Enterprises in 2018, he contributed as a project manager at DKD Enterprises, partner and service director at Silverado Enterprises, and electrical division manager at Four Winds Mechanical.
In 2024, Mr. Spier reached a major milestone when he opened his own business, Spier Electric LLC. Since then, he has served as the company’s chief executive officer. Through Spier Electric, Mr. Spier offers clients a wide range of electrical services, including installation of new lighting and heavy equipment, monthly electrical maintenance, infrastructure upkeep and more. He and his team have a wealth of experience across commercial, industrial and residential electrical.
Since launching Spier Electric LLC, Mr. Spier has steadily grown the company to its current size of six staff members. He sets himself apart from competitors by focusing strongly on building lasting customer relationships. Mr. Spier prioritizes long-term partnerships over short-term contracts, positioning his company as someone clients can trust and return to for all of their electrical needs. He believes this approach is uncommon and distinct in an industry that can often feel impersonal.
Mr. Spier’s thoughtful approach to his business has paid off with numerous accolades. He has won the Rising Star Award and the IEC Emerging Leader Award from Independent Electrical Contractors. Mr. Spier was named Southwest Electrician of the Year by Klein Tools Inc. in 2018. In 2025, he was included on Albuquerque Business First’s 40 Under 40 list and received the BBB Ignite Award from the Better Business Bureau.
As a commitment to his field, Mr. Spier has been active with several industry-related organizations. He maintains membership in the Better Business Bureau’s New Mexico and Southwest Colorado branches. From 2017 to 2021, Mr. Spier served as a committee member for Northern New Mexico Independent Electrical Contractors Inc. Recognizing the importance of having mentorship on his own journey, he has helped new electricians as an apprenticeship committee member for the Association of Building Contractors of New Mexico since 2023.
Beyond his professional life, Mr. Spier is a devoted husband to his wife, Crystal, and a loving father to two children, 17-year-old Dominic and 9-year-old Lucas. The couple is expecting a third child in the near future. Alongside that addition to his family, Mr. Spier is excited to continue building on the success Spier Electric has experienced so far. He has set ambitious goals of growing to 20 employees and achieving $20 million in revenue, and the company is currently on track to reach those targets.
Although working in the electrical trade is a very different path from what Mr. Spier had in mind as an artistic child, he has discovered beauty and creativity within this industry that he did not expect. He hopes young people considering their career may be inspired by his journey and might give the trade a chance.
