Paul C. Dolan, Area Director at Rhode Island Resource Conservation and Development Council, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Forestry and Environmental Education.

Mr. Dolan has established a distinguished career in forestry and environmental education, marked by decades of dedicated service and leadership. Since 2012, he has served as the area director for the Rhode Island Resource Conservation and Development Council, a nonprofit organization focused on conservation initiatives throughout the state. In this capacity, Mr. Dolan is responsible for ordering state supplies, writing final reports and securing funding for various outreach programs. Notably, he developed and presented a menu of over five different educational programs, primarily at libraries in southern Rhode Island, covering topics such as forest history, insect diseases, species identification and forest management. Mr. Dolan’s commitment to public engagement is evident in his willingness to travel across the state to share his expertise with diverse audiences.

Before his current role, Mr. Dolan dedicated 35 years to the Rhode Island Forestry Division, culminating in his retirement as the deputy state forester. Throughout his tenure, he advanced through multiple positions, gaining comprehensive experience in managing districts, collaborating with private landowners and overseeing state lands. Mr. Dolan’s responsibilities encompassed every aspect of forestry service, from fieldwork to administrative oversight. His work was interrupted only by an injury sustained from a fall, after which he continued to contribute through part-time outreach and educational efforts.

Mr. Dolan’s academic background laid a strong foundation for his career accomplishments. He earned a Bachelor of Science in natural resources from the University of Rhode Island in Kingston and a master’s degree in forestry from the University of New Hampshire in Durham.

Mr. Dolan’s journey is further distinguished by his active participation in industry and civic organizations as a member of the Northern Rhode Island Conservation District, board member of both the Wild Plant Society and the Orchid Society, and fellow in the National Society of American Foresters. He has played key roles in tree planting projects, such as Arbor Day initiatives, Liberty Trees and multi-village tree planting campaigns. Mr. Dolan has also served as an instructor for Biothon and Envirothon competitions, and has taught natural resources education and coordinated student contests on soils, forestry, wildlife, aquatics and special topics, including serving as coordinator for an international competition held in Mississippi, and has participated in outreach programs aimed at fostering environmental stewardship among youth. Among other involvements, he is recognized as a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

In recognition of his success, Mr. Dolan received a Yankee Division David M. Smith Award in the Field of Forestry, a Friends of the Forest Award, a Bronze Hard Hat Tree Farm Award, and, among others, a Rhode Island Distinguished Service Award. Additionally, he was named an Audubon Eberhard Thiele Environmental Educator of the Year and inducted into the National Environmental Hall of Fame.

Mr. Dolan credits his perseverance and the influence of his parents, both of whom were educators, for instilling in him a deep appreciation for learning and public service. These formative experiences shaped his decision to pursue a profession that combined his love for the outdoors with opportunities to educate others.

Looking ahead, Mr. Dolan intends to continue mentoring young people through outreach programs and remains committed to environmental advocacy. He hopes to retire fully while continuing to promote an environmental ethic through tree planting programs that will benefit future generations. Ultimately, Mr. Dolan remains dedicated to leaving a positive legacy by enhancing natural landscapes and inspiring others to appreciate and protect forests for years to come.
