Vijay Velu, Founder and Group Managing Director at EquiNordic Group and Founder and Chief Information Officer at Turret Labs, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements and leadership in Investment Finance, Financial Technology and Manufacturing.

Attributing 35 years to his distinguished career, Mr. Velu has established himself as an expert in investment finance, financial technology and manufacturing. His professional journey is marked by a commitment to innovation and public service through technological advancement. Since 2018, Mr. Velu has served as the founder and group managing director at EquiNordic Group, a company dedicated to creating and delivering next-generation cloud-based products, with locations in both Copenhagen, Denmark, and New York.

Before launching EquiNordic Group, Mr. Velu became the founder and chief information officer at Turret Labs in Durham, North Carolina, a company specializing in providing Agile software factory and solutions for the retail, aviation, eCommerce, financial services and health care sectors. Since the company was founded in 2003, he has been instrumental in more than 25 products entering the mainstream industry.

Notably, Mr. Velu’s companies are focused on accelerating the speed of supply chain finance for suppliers at all levels worldwide. Recognizing the critical impact of payment delays on global supply chains, his organizations have identified bottlenecks in the process and are working to address and optimize them. Their goal is to enhance the flow of funds to lower-tier suppliers without altering existing financial models, a potentially patentable solution that could stabilize supply chains and benefit buyers and consumers across developed markets.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Velu contributed his expertise to the General Motors Pension Fund. He also worked for the United Nations Development Program as a senior information analyst from 1993 to 1997. There, he worked on a 45-country financial program management system for both the United Nations Development Program and the United Nations Capital Development Fund. This experience provided Mr. Velu with a global perspective on financial systems management.

Mr. Velu’s educational background laid a strong foundation for his achievements. He earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering with concentrations in grid power systems, nuclear power engineering and power electronics at Bangalore University. He then acquired a Master of Business Administration in finance, marketing and information systems at New York University. These academic credentials have equipped him with both technical expertise and strategic insight, skills that have proven invaluable throughout his multifaceted career. Further enhancing his qualifications, Mr. Velu received credentials in the Internet of Things and a course on the challenges of big data through MIT Professional Education.

Throughout his career, Mr. Velu has maintained active involvement in industry organizations, such as the Association for Supply Chain Management, reflecting his ongoing commitment to professional development and industry standards. Beyond his corporate responsibilities, he has demonstrated civic-mindedness through various affiliations and philanthropic activities. He served as the president of RTP Rotary Club under Rotary International in Durham from 2007 to 2008. He also became recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club in 2008 for outstanding contributions. Additionally, Mr. Velu supports organizations like the Girl Scouts of the United States of America as well as local churches and temples.

The ability to deliver payments at speeds five to 10 times faster than prevailing industry standards is one of the key factors Mr. Velu attributes to his success. He believes that rapid processing of micropayments not only enhances cash flow but also empowers suppliers to increase their output for buyers, ultimately benefiting entire economies. Mr. Velu’s most significant professional achievement has been persuading individuals to collaborate on developing next-generation information systems. These systems are now utilized by large corporations, a testament to his ability to unite diverse talents toward common goals.

Mr. Velu’s entry into the profession was driven by firsthand observation of inefficiencies within large corporations, especially manufacturing organizations, which often required bailouts during crises due to outdated processes. His desire to serve the public good through technological solutions led him to establish both Turret Labs and EquiNordic Group with an emphasis on creating more efficient operational models for industry stakeholders.

Known for his intellectual curiosity about low-gravity technology and lunar exploration, Mr. Velu believes there are untapped opportunities for utilizing moon-based natural resources, including new approaches for fabricating medications and pharmaceuticals. He is currently advocating for further exploration of both lunar environments and ocean depths as potential sources for scientific discovery that could address pressing global challenges such as drug shortages.

Looking ahead, Mr. Velu aims for his companies’ innovations to further accelerate supply chain finance globally by refining payment processes so that lower-tier suppliers can remain active participants without disrupting existing financial structures. This vision is rooted in practical invention rather than distant speculation about interstellar travel. For those aspiring to enter investment finance or financial technology fields, Mr. Velu advises breaking down complex problems into smaller components that can be addressed sequentially, an approach that often leads to faster resolution of larger issues within finance.
