Kit Smyth Basquin, PhD, former print study room associate at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in art and art history.
With more than 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Basquin was a print study room associate for the Metropolitan Museum of Art from 2000 to 2014. Prior to obtaining this role, she was a research associate with the Brooklyn Museum of Art in 2000 and an exhibition manager with the William Doyle Galleries in 2000, having been in marketing with William Doyle since 1999. She was previously a guest curator at the Indiana University Art Museum in 1998 and an outreach director of the Wisconsin Humanities Council from 1995 to 1998.
From 1988 to 1995, Dr. Basquin was a Curator of Education with the Haggerty Museum at Marquette University and, from 1981 to 1983, she was the director of the Kit Basquin Gallery. Earlier in her career, she was the director of the Washington Gallery from 1972 to 1979 in Indiana and the assistant director of public relations at the Indianapolis Museum of Art from 1971 to 1972.
Dr. Basquin earned a Bachelor of Arts from Groucher College in 1963. In 1970, she was awarded a Master of Arts in art history from Indiana University, Bloomington. In 2009, she completed a PhD from Union Institute and University, Cincinnati. Dr. Basquin is a member of The University Club, New York City, the James Joyce Society, and sings with MasterVoices and two church choirs.
A respected voice in her areas of interest, Dr. Basquin has been affiliated with a number of organizations. The former president of the Contemporary Art Society at the Milwaukee Art Museum, she has served as an instructor at Concordia University and Marquette University. She attended the Midwest Museum Conference, and she has served as a guest curator for the City University of New York and Boston University.
