Dennis J. O’Keefe, Retired Accountant and Sports Officiate, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in accounting and sports officiating.
Earning a Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of South Carolina in 1974, Mr. O’Keefe dedicated 30 years to accounting and 12 years to selling insurance in his notable career. Out of college, he served as a state auditor for seven years along with another 23 years in the field before pivoting to the insurance industry from 2006 to 2018. Later on, Mr. O’Keefe worked with the Department of Health for five years while also taking on private jobs. In addition, he had worked at the technical college bookstore as an accountant. To remain abreast in his industry, Mr. O’Keefe maintains affiliation with the Government, Finance, Office Association, University of South Carolina Marching Band and Delta Sigma Phi. Since 2015, he has been a trombonist in the Riverland Hills Baptist Church Orchestra.
Outside of his primary career, Mr. O’Keefe is a distinguished sports officiator for various sports to South Carolina high schools of 40 years. Notably, from 1974 to 2014, he has officiated numerous high school state finals, including seven for football, one for basketball and 10 for softball. He has also officiated Dixie Youth baseball, including two World Series’ and seven state finals. Taking his expertise to the entertainment industry, Mr. O’Keefe appeared in the 1993 film, “The Program” as a referee alongside James Caan, Halle Berry and Omar Epps. Since 2000, he has been the co-host of the talk show, “Rapping with the Ref” with Teddy Heffner WGCV105.1/620AM. An inductee of the South Carolina Football Officials Hall of Fame for 2020 and 2021 and the South Carolina Basketball Officials Hall of Fame for 2016, Mr. O’Keefe credits these accomplishments as the highlights of his career. Today, he remains an official scorer with the University of South Carolina men’s basketball program and the director of girl’s lacrosse.
