In 2012, Mr. Herb became the eponym of the Sam Herb/Jack McGrath Automation Award for the Philadelphia Future City Competition and the International Society of Automation in recognition of his many years in manufacturing. He currently serves as the owner of the consultation firm JAOMAD and an instructor of instrumentation and process control, as well as a frequent public speaker on behalf of the Boy Scouts of America and as a minister with the Holy Communion of St. Jude’s Church. Mr. Herb is a recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and the Marquis Who’s Who Humanitarian Award, and is a Marquis Who’s Who Industry Expert featured in Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, and Who’s Who in the East.

Born to Samuel F. Herb and Mildred V. Herb in Yeadon, Pennsylvania, Mr. Herb attended Drexel University to earn a BEE in 1969, and entered the field as a technician with the technology giant Honeywell. He became a technology writer, applications engineer, and project engineer before moving on to product application with Leeds and Northup in 1979. Mr. Herb served with the company for 15 years, becoming a market manager of control applications, and transitioned into a director of marketing for Procon Systems. He was a market analyst for Siemens from 1996 to 2002, and a director of strategic marketing for Invensys, now Schneider Electric. Mr. Herb has also been a prolific contributor to technology journals and manufacturing literature, and was a faculty member of Spring Garden College.

Mr. Herb has been a commissioner of the Boy Scouts of America since 1961, and has received numerous awards for his leadership in the organization, including a 2015 Humanitarian Contribution Award, a 1990 Silver Beaver Award, and a 1989 Wood Badge. He has also contributed greatly to the International Society of Automation, which granted him a 1990 Distinguished Commissioner Award, followed by a 1999 Donald P. Eckman Education Award, two Golden Eagle Awards, and an award named for him. Besides his many civic and industry contributions, Mr. Herb also became the proud father of Samuel S., Corinne M., David M., and Elizabeth A. with his wife, the late Judith Ann Oesch. In his free time, he enjoys travel, swimming, the outdoors, house projects, and model railroading. He is a curator with the Reading Railroad Heritage Museum.
