David C. Phillips III, Chief Executive Officer of the 1st Step Male Diversion Program, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in social intervention.
Since 2018, Mr. Phillips has been the chief executive officer of the 1st Step Male Diversion Program. This organization offers diversion programs for young men bound for imprisonment. If the young men complete the program, they can avoid prison time and may see their records expunged. The program was created in April 2016 and saw its first participant in July 2017.
Prior to his current position, Mr. Phillips served as board president of the 1st Step Male Diversion Program from 2015 to 2018. He boasts extensive experience in the law, serving for over 30 years as a defense attorney. Long committed to helping those facing imprisonment, Mr. Phillips was also a public defender for 15 years.
In preparation for his career, Mr. Phillips attended the University of Pittsburgh and earned a bachelor’s degree in anthropology in 1974. In 1990, he graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Law with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in law. Alongside his primary endeavors, he has also contributed as an administrative council member to the United Methodist Church.
Mr. Phillips attributes his success to the dedicated workers who operate the program. He considers seeing those he helped escape their problems his most notable achievement. Mr. Phillips is committed to removing the obstacles to success for others, and in the comping years, he hopes to build a campus to house all the different aspects of the 1st Step Male Diversion Program.
