With nearly five decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Laursen has established a successful career in finance and accounting. He currently serves as accounting controller at Ur-Energy Inc., a role he has held since 2021. In this capacity, he specializes in SEC reporting and compliance, Sarbanes-Oxley documentation, implementation, and testing, and combining technical accounting with IT for integration and security. Mr. Laursen’s experience includes serving as controller and chief financial officer at Ur-Energy Inc. from 2011 to 2020, and as financial compliance manager at the same company from 2009 to 2011. Earlier in his career, he held multiple roles at Hudson Financial Solutions, including technical practice director from 2008 to 2009, practice director from 2007 to 2009, and senior field consultant from 2002 to 2007. Reflecting on his path, Mr. Laursen attributes his passion for accounting to his parents, who were both in the profession. Numbers came naturally to him, and accounting was a logical path that aligned with his business-oriented mindset. He takes great pride in his accomplishments, including expanding his company from 11 employees to 115, with a network of nearly 500,000 associates across seven countries. His contributions were pivotal in managing accounting systems across diverse international locations. Notably, in 2008 and 2009, he identified approximately $46 million in potential tax deductions for a local company during a four-month collaboration. He also worked extensively with a satellite company and other satellite internet businesses, lending his expertise to areas such as stock options.
Mr. Laursen attributes his success to an unwavering dedication to productivity, a relentless work ethic, and a passion for taking on new challenges. Looking to the future, he envisions taking on additional leadership roles, offering financial guidance to companies that may not need a full-time chief financial officer but would benefit from expert analysis. In the long term, he aspires to join advisory boards, leveraging his wealth of experience to make a broader impact. He also cherishes the opportunity to spend more quality time with his family in the coming years. He expresses deep gratitude for his current position, which he describes as the most fulfilling of his career, both in terms of the work itself and the people he collaborates with.
