Title: President and Senior Estate and Financial Planner
Company: KJP Capital Management Inc.
Location: Reno, Nevada, United States

Kenneth J. Peterson, president and senior estate and financial planner at KJP Capital Management Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in finance and estate planning.

With nearly four decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Peterson has established a successful career in financial and estate planning. He currently serves as president and senior estate and financial planner at KJP Capital Management Inc. and as senior financial and estate planner at Mutual Financial Advisors, where he uses comprehensive financial strategies to meet the diverse needs of his clients. His experience also includes serving as a senior financial planner at Alpha Cubed Investments LLC from 2016 to 2024, a financial advisor at Protected Investors of America in Reno from 2014 to 2016 and managing director and senior vice president at Strategic Capital Group from 2005 to 2014. Earlier in his career, he worked as senior vice president for Fidelity Investments’ Private Access division from 1991 to 2005. Before transitioning into finance, he spent 15 years in public safety as a policeman and firefighter for the City of Sanibel Public Safety Department in Florida.

Laying a strong educational foundation, Mr. Peterson earned a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice and law enforcement administration from San Jose State University in 1984 and completed coursework toward a Master of Business Administration in business administration and management at Santa Clara University. Additionally, he holds the certified financial planner designation. He also dedicates his time as a Yellow Dot dog walker and foster parent for kittens with the Nevada Humane Society since 2012, and participated in a national charity draft supporting the Foundation Fighting Blindness, an organization focused on advancing research into preventions, treatments, and cures for inherited retinal degenerative diseases.

Reflecting on his path, Mr. Peterson recounts taking part in high-speed pursuits in both a police car and a fire engine. On the financial side, he takes great pride in two standout accomplishments. The first occurred in 1990, when he engineered the largest asset transfer into Fidelity Investments, involving billions of dollars. The transfer was so significant that Fidelity had to redesign its computer systems to accommodate the influx and ensure accurate client reporting. The second involved a client, a roofer with a net worth of $135 million. Faced with a potential estate tax liability exceeding $60 million, he devised a strategy to reduce the liability to under $12 million. In light of his impressive undertakings, he has been honored with the Top Cop Award six times, ranking second in Sanibel County for the most awards received.

Looking to the future, Mr. Peterson envisions continuing his current work, which provides him with the flexibility to work from home and manage his schedule. He relies primarily on referrals to build his client base, forgoing formal marketing materials in favor of a reputation built on trust and results. In advising aspiring professionals, he emphasizes embracing the potential for growth within a single year and maintain a positive, focused mindset. Drawing inspiration from baseball legend Ted Williams’ “hit, hit, hit” approach, he highlights the power of focusing on opportunities rather than fearing failure. He believes that by adopting this mindset and staying adaptable, creative, and open to unconventional strategies, professionals can unlock their potential and foster lasting success.
