Lonnie E. Patrick, AIA, NCARB, self-employed architect, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in architecture and design.
With three decades of experience, Mr. Patrick has established a successful career in architecture and design, specializing in commercial architecture. Since 2019, he has served as principal owner of Lonnie E. Patrick, Architect, where he works with a design-build firm focusing primarily on commercial architecture while also engaging in residential projects. His prior roles include project architect at Huckabee from 2015 to 2019, project manager and intern architect at Taylor-Wallace Designs Inc. from 2014 to 2015, and owner of Design Consultants from 2001 to 2015. He also served as project manager and intern architect at Architecture Associates in 2014, project manager at Architecture+Monroe from 2007 to 2014, project manager at Space Planners Architects from 2003 to 2007, project manager at Arco Builders Inc. from 1998 to 2001, and project manager at James M. Standard & Associates from 1992 to 1998. Before transitioning into architecture, he served as an NCO sergeant (E-5) during Operation Desert Storm in the U.S. Army from 1985 to 1993.
Mr. Patrick also dedicates his time to community involvement, donating to the United Way of Northeast Louisiana, the Wounded Warrior Project, and a local Christian private school. He has also mentored three architects over three years and is a member of the American Institute of Architects, the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, and the International Code Council. Laying a strong educational foundation, he earned a diploma in drafting technology from Delta-Ouachita Vocational in 1983, a diploma in primary leadership development from the U.S. Army in 1989, a Bachelor of Science in architecture from Louisiana Tech University in 2014, and a master’s degree in architecture from Louisiana Tech University in 2015. He also holds certification from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, and a Cal OES Safety Assessment Program certification for Louisiana from the Office of Emergency Services.
Reflecting on his path, Mr. Patrick has always been passionate about creating meaningful architecture that benefits communities. After working in architecture firms early in his career, he served in the U.S. Army, then returned to school to complete his education and achieve licensure. He takes great pride in his work for a Texas firm specializing in educational architecture, where he contributed to the design of an elementary school in Rockwall, Texas, and the renovation of the Grapevine-Colleyville Mustang Panther Stadium. He attributes his success to a broad knowledge base and versatility, describing himself as a jack of all trades. He also credits his professors at Louisiana Tech University for instilling a design ethic that evolved into a strong work ethic.
Looking to the future, Mr. Patrick aims to continue producing meaningful work in his profession while dedicating time to learning new software to enhance his craft. He advises aspiring architects to approach the field with genuine passion, emphasizing that while long hours are inevitable, the rewards are equally significant. He also encourages young professionals to embrace challenges, enjoy the creative process, and convey enthusiasm for their projects. He also stresses the importance of developing strong verbal and presentation skills, noting that confidence in articulating ideas is essential for success. He underscores the value of maintaining a healthy work-life balance, as he believes that a supportive personal life provides the foundation for thriving professionally.
