To prepare for his career, Mr. Baylor studied at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in agricultural business and economics with a minor in professional writing in 2016. While pursuing his degree, he became involved in COINS on campus, one of the country’s only student-run commodity investing groups. He also had the opportunity to intern with a commodity purchasing company. Furthermore, Mr. Baylor became active with Alpha Gamma Rho, a social and professional agriculture-focused fraternity. His education and experiences both on and off campus were instrumental in his success in banking by tailoring his expertise in the finance sector.
Following college, Mr. Baylor chose to pursue a position as a credit analyst after a fraternity brother working at Farm Credit of the Virginias recognized his potential and encouraged him to apply for a job opening. Mr. Baylor accepted the opportunity to apply and believed that the role would be an excellent opportunity for him. His decision ultimately shaped the trajectory of his career.
Initially inspired by farming as a child, Mr. Baylor has deep roots in agriculture. He joined Future Farmers of America in high school. Once he entered college, he began studying the pre-animal science track to become a veterinarian. However, he discovered an aptitude for numbers, quickly pivoted and became immersed in agriculture.
Mr. Baylor has seen significant success since joining Farm Credit of the Virginias over five years ago. Most notably, he was selected for a Top Tier Award as the top in the company in 2022. This coveted accolade is peer-voted and is a testament to his hard work and diligence as a leading employee who exemplifies exceptional qualities and skills.
Appreciative of his ongoing success in the banking sector, Mr. Baylor credits much of his good fortune to his vigorous work ethic, resilience, and the significant mentorship he has been fortunate enough to receive. He also notes maintaining a sense of humility and remembering that a title does not define one’s worth. Moreover, Mr. Baylor believes in taking the initiative beyond one’s role, demonstrating the importance of teamwork, collaboration, and servant leadership.
