Fredah Mainah, PhD, immigration officer at United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, and founder and chief executive officer of Rainbow-Ono Sanctuary, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the nonprofit sector.
Dr. Mainah, a U.S. immigration officer and nonprofit executive, has garnered tremendous success throughout her diverse career. Since 2017, she has been a government employee, working for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services while heading the Rainbow-Ono Sanctuary as its founder and chief executive officer. She provides strategic leadership at the sanctuary, which was founded in 2021, serving as a team leader for writing proposals to fund projects and fostering team collaboration with volunteers and directors. Based in Texas, her nonprofit provides support to spiritual seekers in a global capacity.
With intentions to retire from her government position in the next few years, Dr. Mainah plans to concentrate on making Rainbow-Ono Sanctuary a global initiative. The sanctuary began as a virtual garden to promote self-leadership and has since transformed into a physical garden. Presently collaborating with a landscaper, Dr. Mainah is also working on a grant proposal for the U.S. Department of Agriculture to access funds for its expansion.
In addition to these initiatives, Dr. Mainah is a respected personalized life coach, helping clients navigate their talents. Her virtual learning center offers several courses, including Exude Contagious Confidence, Language and Culture, and Becoming a Master at Self-Leadership at the High School and College Level.
Dr. Mainah’s earlier career included roles as an adjunct professor and PIO faculty development fellow at Western Michigan University after initially serving as a research assistant on campus. She was also a visiting professor of foreign languages at Kalamazoo College. Other career engagements included working as a senior HR & OD consultant for IDM-BLS.
Dr. Mainah notably began her career as a high school teacher in Kenya, teaching English as a foreign language. She became a trainer of trainers before training education managers and an education manager in a school district. Dr. Mainah also worked in Botswana as a training officer and senior consultant with a government-sponsored professional development organization.
Highly educated, Dr. Mainah holds a Bachelor of Arts in education from Siriba Teacher’s Training College, Kenya, since 1984, a Master of Science in organizational learning and performance from Western Michigan University since 2013, a PhD in organizational leadership from The Chicago School since 2016, and a Master of Education in instructional design and technology from Western Michigan University since 2018. Besides her degrees, she received a graduate certificate in integrative holistic health from Western Michigan University in 2016. She also became a Kirkpatrick-certified professional in 2021 and Six Sigma white belt certified in quality assurance in 2023.
Beyond her work-related ventures, Dr. Mainah has been a member of the International Leadership Association, is affiliated with the Institute of Coaching at McLean Hospital, and has been a board member and counselor for the Harvard Business Review since 2024. Civically, she volunteers for the Triangle Lodge Learning Center, a membership organization in Dallas. While volunteering, Dr. Mainah was asked to serve as its chief executive officer for two years, which she will complete in March 2025. Additionally, she is active in the organization as a master teacher and master gardener.
Lauded for her work as a writer, Dr. Mainah has contributed numerous works, beginning with “Challenges Facing Women in US Higher Education: The Case of Faculty of Color” as the author in 2014. Her more recent publications include authoring “Ancient Meditation Technologies: A Spiral-Reflective Process on How to Experience a More Balanced Life,” which was independently published in 2022, and co-authoring “Sub-Saharan African Immigrants’ Stories of Resilience and Courage” via Anthem Press in 2023.
Highlighting her accomplishments, Dr. Mainah received an Honorary Doctor in Humanitarianism from GIA Advocate University in 2025. Earlier in her career, she was recognized as the Best Teacher of English in the District in 1993. Dr. Mainah credits her success to her dedication to self-leadership.
