Dr. Johnson, president of the National Women’s Foundation in Washington, D.C., joined the nonprofit organization in 2024, overseeing grants and fundraising efforts for various initiatives and programs. Established in 1991, this nonpartisan charity educates the public on different topics, including the history of the women’s rights movement and its numerous achievements in society. Dr. Johnson previously served as the president of the WNDC Educational Foundation from 2020 to 2024.

Before pivoting into the nonprofit sector, Dr. Johnson was the chief health officer at Wellpass. She also held several other diverse roles, dating back to the 1960s, when she served as an assistant to Dr. Margaret Mead at the American Museum of Natural History. Furthermore, she served as a social science adviser and evaluator for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), as well as the deputy to the Secretary’s Office at the United Nations. Throughout her tenure, Dr. Johnson’s most notable achievement was her use of data to measure and improve various initiatives, including tracking high school student registration rates and initiating HIV medication treatments for infants. Beyond her professional success, she has given back to various causes worldwide, including serving as a lead for Text for Baby, volunteering for mobile health initiatives in Peru and Rwanda, and as the vice president of the Child to Health Foundation.  Dr. Johnson attributes her success to working with young people and utilizing data, with a particular appreciation for solid data, demography and epidemiology. Grateful for her accomplishments, she felt that she could make the most significant impact by working in nonprofits, with a primary focus on women’s initiatives, drawing substantial inspiration from her minister father, who was heavily engaged in community leadership.
