Mr. Bastian is a seasoned expert in cybersecurity, risk management, compliance and governance. With over 25 years of experience in the field, he serves as a senior information security officer at Maricopa Community Colleges, a position he has held since 2024. Mr. Bastian’s expertise is further demonstrated through his role as the founder of Bastian Cyber Security LLC in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, established in 2020. His leadership and strategic vision have been instrumental in shaping the cybersecurity landscape within these organizations.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Bastian was the vice chancellor and chief information security officer at Maricopa Community Colleges from 2023 to 2024. His tenure was marked by significant advancements in the institution’s cybersecurity infrastructure. Before this, he served as a senior information security officer on campus between 2020 and 2023, where he played a pivotal role in enhancing their security protocols.
Mr. Bastian’s career also included a notable period as a senior security architect at American Airlines from 2015 to 2020. During this time, he was responsible for designing and implementing robust security frameworks that safeguarded critical data and systems. In 2015, he worked as an information security engineer at Wells Fargo Bank, where he contributed to strengthening the bank’s cybersecurity measures. Earlier, Mr. Bastian served as the Americas security administrator at Isola Group in Chandler, Arizona, where he managed comprehensive security operations between 2013 and 2015.
Mr. Bastian’s academic background has been instrumental in his career success. He earned a Bachelor of Science in information technology management from Western International University in 2006. Subsequently, he received a Master of Professional Studies in homeland security with a focus on information security and forensics from Pennsylvania State University in 2017 and earned induction into the prestigious Order of the Sword & Shield honor society recognized by Omicron Sigma Sigma.
Beyond his formal education, Mr. Bastian’s professional credentials include a critical infrastructure security and resilience certification from the Emergency Management Institute, an information systems cybersecurity certificate from Pennsylvania State University, and credentials as a certified information systems security professional. He also holds an accredited firefighter designation from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Bastian is actively involved in several industry-related organizations. He holds memberships with InfraGard as the national transportation sector chief and participates in the North Texas Crimes Commission and North Texas Cybercrime Committee. He is also affiliated with the Information Systems Audit and Control Association, further underscoring his commitment to advancing cybersecurity practices.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Bastian is deeply committed to civic engagement and community service. He volunteers with several organizations, including the North Texas Crime Commission, Susan G. Komen North Texas, the Navy Junior ROTC and the Cleburne Pregnancy Center Inc. He is also recognized at Shepherds Valley Cowboy Church as a Stephens minister.
