Celebrating nearly 30 years on his professional journey, Mr. Pierce has served as the global partner manager and sales and alliance leader for Amazon Web Services since 2020, after having initially joined the company in 2019 as a global partner development manager focusing on its work with SAP. In his current role, he oversees a range of Amazon partnerships, particularly the organization’s collaborations with IBM. In managing this relationship, Mr. Pierce is an essential part of a partnership that generates billions of dollars in revenues for both Amazon and IBM. He finds great fulfilment in the challenge of aligning two different large organizations in working toward a common goal.

Mr. Pierce’s contributions to Amazon have been supported by his significant past experiences. From 2011 to 2019, he rose through the ranks at SAP, beginning as a senior director of the company’s Global Center of Excellence for Enterprise Information Management. From there, Mr. Pierce was promoted to global senior director of enterprise information management, global senior director of big data and internet of things (IoT) industry solutions, global senior director of IoT global solutions management and global senior director of business development and strategic partnerships. His understanding of the inner workings of SAP made him an ideal choice for managing Amazon’s relationship with the company.

Prior to starting with SAP, Mr. Pierce spent one year as the global solutions executive for data governance and data quality at Informatica. Further setting the foundations for his future with Amazon, he began his career at IBM in 1996 as an associate partner and principal. Across almost 15 years with IBM, Mr. Pierce rose to the positions of enterprise integration national practice executive and SAP information management practice executive. He has also dedicated some time to teaching as a professor at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Before venturing onto his vocational path, Mr. Pierce sought his own education. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in biology, chemistry and computer science from Baylor University in 1985. Subsequently, Mr. Pierce earned a Master of Science in computer science from the same institution in 1989. Since then, he has completed all but the dissertation for a PhD through the University of Texas. Mr. Pierce has stayed on the cutting edge of developments in his field through continued learning. He is certified through Amazon Web Services as a cloud practitioner and in generative artificial intelligence (AI) essentials for business.

Noted for his achievements in his industry, Mr. Pierce has been the subject of numerous accolades. He has received the Award for Volunteer Work, the SAP Award for Innovation for Oil and Gas and Energy, the Outstanding Performer Award, and the Innovation Award. Mr. Pierce was named one of the Outstanding Young Men of America in 1986 and was granted a patent through IBM in 2000. Throughout the 1990s, he wrote a number of articles in journals published by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

Long dedicated to civic advocacy, Mr. Pierce devotes much of his free time to giving back to the community. He has volunteered with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Ronald McDonald House, the Shriners Hospitals for Children Pediatric Burn Clinic and local food banks. Additionally, Mr. Pierce has coached youth hockey through the Arvada Hockey Association since 2002.

Beyond his career, Mr. Pierce is a loving husband, father to three and grandfather to one. In his free time, he finds enjoyment in skiing, biking, hiking, sailing, playing golf and traveling. For the foreseeable future, Mr. Pierce is focused on furthering his career with Amazon Web Services. While he envisions retiring in 10 years, he still has big aspirations, including leading a major sustainability initiative for IBM and Amazon. This project highlights Mr. Pierce’s primary career goal: to make the world a better place. Both within and outside of his professional life, he hopes to inspire others to consider the ways they can make a difference every day.
