The NEI is headquartered in Washington, D.C. It is recognized as a leading U.S. policy and technical organization dedicated to all aspects of the commercial nuclear industry. Run by a team of industry professionals from the utilities, nuclear supply chain, labor union and other sectors, NEI specializes in shaping policies and regulations that promote clean nuclear energy in the United States and worldwide.

Mr. Powers’ academic foundation was laid at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in 1986. The education he received there provided him with critical analytical skills and a broad perspective that have proven invaluable throughout his professional journey.

Throughout his career, Mr. Powers has remained actively involved in several professional organizations, reflecting his dedication to both policy and industry advancement. He is a member of the National Democratic Club. He is also affiliated with the National Energy Resources Organization, a nonpartisan organization that engages in dialogue on energy issues and promotes public awareness. Both of these organizations have enabled Mr. Powers to remain at the forefront of legislative developments and energy policy discourse.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Powers has demonstrated a strong commitment to civic engagement and community service. He is a donor to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. He also co-founded Helmets to Hardhats, a national nonprofit that connects transitioning active-duty military service members, veterans, National Guard and Reservists with skilled training and quality career opportunities in the construction industry, exemplifying his dedication to supporting individuals in need. Previously, Mr. Powers was active in programs such as the Father’s Club at Gonzaga College High School, serving as its past president. He also contributed as a lector at St. Mary Church and volunteered at a local food bank in Washington, D.C.

Having enjoyed a tenured career, Mr. Powers reflects on some of his most notable accomplishments. Among them, he led the Helmets to Hardhats project in 2001 while working in the building trade. This initiative was designed to assist military personnel and veterans transitioning into civilian life by securing employment opportunities within the construction industry. Mr. Powers played a pivotal role in obtaining congressional funding for the program, underscoring his commitment to public service and workforce development.

Mr. Powers attributes much of his success to his practice of listening attentively to others, a quality he believes allows him to absorb diverse viewpoints and make informed decisions. Looking ahead, he remains focused on advancing nuclear energy both domestically and internationally through his ongoing work at the Nuclear Energy Institute.
