Michael R. Tinsley, Chief Executive Officer at Ross & Ross Holdings, LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Waste Management and Recycling.
With a career spanning more than 15 years in the broader waste management industry, Mr. Tinsley has established himself as an expert in identifying commodities within the e-waste streamline. His journey in this sector has been marked by a commitment to innovation and growth. As the chief executive officer of Ross & Ross Holdings, LLC, since 2013, Mr. Tinsley has excelled at overseeing operations that include managing approximately 10 employees from intake to dismantling of e-waste and outgoing logistics.
Under Mr. Tinsley’s leadership, the company has achieved significant milestones, including an approximate 40% growth over the past five years. This expansion was driven by process enhancements and outreach efforts following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in new business connections across states, such as Georgia, Florida, Arizona and California.
Mr. Tinsley distinguishes himself through a strong background in research. This expertise enables him to identify opportunities to recover and recycle materials that many companies find challenging to process. Notably, he has developed downstream solutions that allow these materials to be reused rather than discarded, making his company a trusted resource for organizations seeking guidance on effective recycling methods. Mr. Tinsley’s knowledge and robust downstream network have attracted clients from outside his local area who rely on his advice regarding recyclable materials.
In addition to his role at Ross & Ross Holdings, LLC, Mr. Tinsley has been the chief innovation officer at Future Pac LLC since 2017 and the owner and chief managing officer of Ross Recycling LLC, an electronic waste recycling company specializing in precious metal recovery, since 2022. Through these concurrent positions, he continues to drive advancements in recycling processes and business development.
Mr. Tinsley’s time as a compliance officer with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) at the U.S. Department of Labor for nearly a decade provided exposure to various industrial facilities where he observed opportunities for improvement in material handling. Although he did not initially plan to pursue a career in recycling, these experiences naturally led him into the field. When presented with the opportunity to enter recycling, Mr. Tinsley embraced it fully and has remained dedicated ever since.
Mr. Tinsley’s early professional experience included serving as a compliance officer with OSHA at the U.S. Department of Labor for over five years prior to 2013. During this period, he gained valuable insights into workplace safety and regulatory compliance that continue to inform his approach to business operations today.
Education has played a pivotal role in Mr. Tinsley’s success. He completed a Bachelor of Arts in biology and chemistry from Kentucky State University in Frankfort in 1999 and a master’s degree in biology from the University of Kentucky in Lexington in 2001. The scientific foundation provided by these degrees has been instrumental in developing his expertise within waste management and recycling.
Within civic life, Mr. Tinsley maintains active involvement with organizations such as The Kings Center and the Frankfort Area Chamber of Commerce, reflecting a commitment to community engagement beyond professional responsibilities. He is also a supporter of the Lexington Soccer Club.
Mr. Tinsley’s contributions have been recognized with accolades, such as the Research Award from the agriculture department at Kentucky State University. Persistence and determination have been central themes throughout his career. Mr. Tinsley attributes much of his success to staying committed to his goals despite challenges or setbacks. Remarkably, the business began humbly out of his garage and home but grew steadily through perseverance into its current status, a 25,000-square-foot facility with several acres of outdoor storage space. Family support has also been crucial along Mr. Tinsley’s journey, crediting both sides of his family for their encouragement.
Growing up surrounded by entrepreneurs, especially uncles who owned funeral homes, influenced Mr. Tinsley’s approach to business management and client relations. Observing their professionalism and dedication shaped how he conducts himself as a leader today. Proud that clients consistently praise Ross & Ross Holdings, LLC, for its careful packaging and handling of materials, Mr. Tinsley’s reputation has been built over time through attention to detail and quality service delivery. The Ross name carries weight within the industry; although not as large as some major recyclers, the company works alongside these organizations and is trusted by partners.
Looking ahead, Mr. Tinsley aims to bring products covered by three patents into production through partnerships with companies such as Honest PNG and Husky Johnson while securing greater financial stability for his family and ensuring long-term care for his grandson. He encourages those entering the recycling industry to develop deep expertise within their field and cultivate strong professional networks. Mr. Tinsley hopes that when people hear the Ross name, they recognize it as synonymous with quality, a testament not only to business acumen but also to integrity developed over years of dedicated service within waste management and recycling.
