At JPMorgan Chase & Co., he worked in finance compliance, product control and process improvement roles. During his tenure with the company, Mr. Mendoza was called to active duty on September 11, 2001, while serving as a civilian employee. This tragic event underscored his deep sense of responsibility to both his profession and country.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Mendoza contributed his expertise to Deutsche Bank AG and Royal Bank of Canada. These roles provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the evolving demands of the financial sector and allowed him to develop innovative solutions that improved efficiency and accuracy across business functions.
Born in Lima, Peru, and raised in New York, Mr. Mendoza entered the service in 1990, enlisting in the U.S. Army, where he remained until 2002, achieving the rank of lieutenant and specializing as a financial management technician under the 36 Bravo Military Occupational Specialty. Notably, he earned both airborne and air assault qualifications during his military career. Mr. Mendoza’s time in uniform instilled in him a disciplined mindset that continues to influence his approach to leadership and teamwork within the corporate environment.
In preparation for his future, Mr. Mendoza received a Bachelor of Science in accounting, which laid the groundwork for his analytical skills in finance and compliance roles. To further expand his expertise, he completed coursework in business law and corporate finance at Baruch College in New York City. Mr. Mendoza also earned a certificate of completion, with honors, from Yale University’s financial market program, completed machine learning studies through the University of London, and successfully finished the banking, finance, corporate law and anti-money laundering training series program. These academic achievements have played a crucial role in supporting his professional growth by equipping him with advanced technical knowledge needed for today’s complex financial landscape.
Beyond his primary responsibilities at Citigroup Inc., Mr. Mendoza has conducted classes for colleagues on the proper use of artificial intelligence (AI) within business operations, emphasizing the importance of clean data inputs for reliable outcomes. His goal is to close knowledge gaps surrounding AI. Mr. Mendoza’s civic involvement includes ongoing membership with an organization dedicated to supporting veterans through monthly financial contributions.
Mr. Mendoza’s exemplary service has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including a Presidential Unit Citation, a National Defense Service Medal, and an official commendation from the U.S. Army Reserve Component Command for contributions during Operation Noble Eagle and Operation Enduring Freedom. He attributes much of his success to perseverance and the foundational knowledge gained during his military service.
