Title: Engineering Executive
Company: SOS Consulting LLC
Location: Front Royal, Virginia, United States
Susan Schall, President, Founder, and Operations Leader at SOS Consulting LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Industrial Engineering.
As a former technical engineer with DuPont, former methodology director of RR Donnelley Inc., and a former director of the board with ABET Inc., Dr. Schall now offers her many years of industrial engineering experience in a consulting role. She wants to be able to look back on her career and say she made a difference in transforming small manufacturing. Dr. Schall initially wanted to be a patent lawyer, but after visiting pre-law programs she realized the work did not involve science or mathematics, which she loved. Her father pointed her toward engineering as a goal, which lit a passion for Dr. Schall. Today, she holds a 2009 Outstanding Engineering Alumna Award from the Penn State College of Engineering and a 1999 Distinguished Service Award from the Penn State Alumni Society, as well as 1992 Bronze and 1990 Silver Engineering Excellence Awards from DuPont Engineering.
Born in Buffalo, New York, to William Edward and Carol Ruth Schall, Dr. Schall attended the State University of New York at Fredonia to earn a BS in mathematics, followed by a BS in industrial engineering at Pennsylvania State University. She went on to complete an MS and a PhD, and was certified as a quality engineer. She worked with DuPont Engineering Polymers from 1997 to 1998 as a superintendent of control systems, and first launched her consulting firm, Susan O. Schall Process Improvement Consulting, in Front Royal from 1999 to 2002. After working with RR Donelley Inc. from 2002 to 2004, she returned to consulting with SOS Consulting LLC.
Dr. Schall was a member of the industrial and professional advisory council of the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Penn State from 1993 to 2014, and continues to serve as chair of the ASQ Freund-Marquarat Medal Committee. She is also treasurer and internet liaison for the Northern Shenandoah Valley Section for the American Society of Quality and chair of the Communications Committee of the International Statistical Engineering Association (ISA). She has participated with Project Lead the Way for the Warren County Public Schools, and is a certified lay servant of the United Methodist Church. Dr. Schall married Gary Lyle Morrison in 1999. She is a Six Sigma black belt, and has appeared in Who’s Who of American Women and Who’s Who in America.
