With nearly four decades of experience to her credit, Ms. Akin is a proven expert in the fields of mental health care and counseling. Over the course of her career, she has specialized in grief counseling and offering spiritual guidance. Since 2010, she has operated her own private counseling service, working as a licensed professional counselor at Ann Allison Akin, MEd, LPC in Lubbock, Texas, where she assists patients dealing with depression, anxiety, and self-esteem and gender issues. Additionally, Ms. Akin serves as a minister in her community, working with church staff and teaching classes for students.  

In Ms. Akin’s other career-related endeavors, she has served as an ordained clergyperson and associate pastor for St. John’s United Methodist Church. As part of her dedication to her profession, she also remains active as a diplomat for the American Psychotherapy Association. She is also well regarded for her dedication to civic advocacy, regularly volunteering with PFLAG, the National Charity League Inc., and with Race for the Cure of Cancer. In light of her accomplishments, Ms. Akin has been honored with a Dignity Award for Outstanding Service by Covenant Hospital.

 As part of her vocational journey, Ms. Akin pursued a formal education. She began her collegiate career at West Texas State A&M University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in music education. She subsequently continued her studies at Texas Tech University, where she received a Master of Education in educational psychology. Ms. Akin completed her academic pursuits at the Wesley Theological Seminary, achieving a Master of Divinity in theological and ministerial studies in 2002.

Accounting for her fulfilling career, Ms. Akin attributes much of her success to the love and support of her family, who also instilled in her a sense of faith and understanding of justice. To wit, she naturally gravitated towards her vocation, understanding the need for further counseling in obstetrical care for women and families. Over the course of her career, she has been most notably proud of her work in the LGBTQ+ community. In the coming years, Ms. Akin hopes to continue providing for LGBTQ+ members of her community at her church, in addition to offering the best care possible for her clients.
