With nearly four decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Schlake has cultivated a fulfilling career as a multi-faceted professional. In 1990, he joined Gordon Food Service as a customer development specialist, a role in which he excelled in food sales and other business procedures until 2022. Headquartered in Wyoming, Michigan, the company is well-regarded for selling essential food items and other services to restaurants, country clubs, hospitals, nursing homes and schools. Though he retired in 2022, Mr. Schlake shortly thereafter returned to work with the company in North Carolina the same year, and he now operates as an IFS business developer and staff trainer.
During his time with Gordon Food Service, Mr. Schlake has won every award the company has to offer. To wit, his noteworthy accolades include being named Salesperson of the Year and A.R. Person of the Year on several occasions and earning recognition as the Gold Club Winner three times. Furthermore, he was featured in the company’s Winner Circle 20 times. Mr. Schlake previously worked for Charlie Watson Ford as a used car sales manager at the onset of his career between 1984 and 1990.
Outside of his primary vocational interests, Mr. Schlake remains active in his community as a civic-minded citizen. Over the course of his career, he has primarily volunteered with the American Cancer Society. Additionally, he regularly participates in relief efforts for natural disasters and other social calamities. Above all else, he places a special emphasis on simply helping others.
In light of his fulfilling career, Mr. Schlake has largely attributed his success to his friendly personality and his ability to live up to his word. Such behavior has allowed him to develop many positive and trusting relationships with others throughout his career. Accounting for his accomplishments, he is particularly proud to have earned recognition for his achievements in the field, especially being named his company’s Person of the Year. In the coming years, Mr. Schlake looks forward to properly retiring and hopes to start traveling more.
