Since joining the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in 1999, she has advanced from the 24/7 call center to various roles, including analyst, senior analyst, and supervisor, ultimately reaching manager, division director, executive director, and vice president. She now oversees the analytical services division, which provides resources, data analysis, and intelligence on cases involving missing and abducted children, attempted abductions, child sex trafficking, and noncompliant sex offenders. Her responsibilities include developing leads for law enforcement, managing the budget, and providing strategic leadership.

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping locate missing children and prevent child exploitation. They provide critical resources and support services to families, law enforcement, and the public, including a 24/7 hotline for reporting and assistance. Currently, Ms. Shehan excels as the vice president of the analytical services division at the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, a position she has held since 2019. Her previous roles include executive director of the case analysis division from 2015 to 2019, director of the case analysis division from 2011 to 2015, deputy director of the case analysis division in 2011, outreach manager for the NetSmartz Workshop from 2005 to 2006, and supervisor and senior analyst in the exploited children division from 2001 to 2005. Additionally, she is a member of the National Advisory Committee on the Sex Trafficking of Children & Youth in the United States. The National Advisory Committee on the Sex Trafficking of Children & Youth in the United States provides expert guidance and recommendations on combating the sex trafficking of minors. This committee works to enhance policies, practices, and strategies to better protect and support victims of sex trafficking across the country.

Laying a solid educational foundation, Ms. Shehan earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Criminal Justice from La Salle University in 1999. She has also completed several certificates, including Communicating about Culturally Sensitive Issues, Creating Psychological Safety for Diverse Teams, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging, Inclusive Leadership, Managing a Diverse Team, Skills for Inclusive Conversations, and Unconscious Bias, all through LinkedIn Learning. Additionally, she holds a High-Performance Leadership Certificate from Cornell University and an Executive Leadership Certificate from Cornell University. She takes great pride in having established two remarkable teams from scratch, the sex offenders trafficking team in 2006 and the child sex trafficking team in 2011. These teams have since flourished, each consisting of at least 20 dedicated staff members. She attributes her success to her unwavering dedication to the mission and her passionate commitment to serving children. In the coming years, she is eager to advance her career and achieve a senior executive role, focusing on enhancing her expertise in organizational planning and strategy.
