Eva Edit Nagypal, PhD, Senior Economist at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in finance.
As a senior economist at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Dr. Nagypal checks account overdrafts, works on credit reporting, mortgages and public records and handles internal and external reports. She has worked with the bureau since 2012, prior to which she served as the associate director at Navigant Economics from 2002 to 2009. She began studying finance at Brandeis International Business School, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in economics in 1995 and a Master of Arts in international economics and finance in 1996. After receiving a Doctor of Philosophy in economics from Stanford University in 2001, she began serving as an assistant professor at Northwestern University. Though she enjoyed her work, she had always wanted to be a public servant and left the university in 2009 to pursue that avenue.
In addition to her 22-year career in finance, Dr. Nagypal is active in volunteer programs, having worked with numerous local programs to feed homeless individuals since 2009. She is a prolific writer in her field, contributing articles to professional journals, and she is particularly proud of having recently published an overdraft. To remain current in her field, she maintains membership to the American Economic Association as well as the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association.
Moving forward, Dr. Nagypal plans to continue working with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Serving as a public servant has been her lifelong dream, and she is committed to progressing in her career. She attributes her success to perseverance, a trait she continues to uphold, and to the support of her mentor, Dale Mortensen. Though her career is important to her, she takes the greatest pride in her two daughters. Their achievements and personal growth stand as her most significant accomplishments throughout her career and personal life. She finds identity in the values she has instilled in her children, which mirror the principles imparted to her by her own parents.
