Prior to this position, he found success in his field as an electric systems engineer with the Jacksonville Electric Authority from 2018 to 2021 and the founder and chief executive officer of TRC Energy Engineering Professional LLC from 2011 to 2023. He began his career at the age of 17 with his enlistment as an electronic technician in the U.S. Army for three years before continuing his service with a 20-year tenure in the U.S. Navy’s Civil Engineer Corps. During this time, Mr. Colbert was notably stationed at the Pentagon as an engineer on behalf of the U.S. Naval Reserve Forces between 2009 and 2011, assisting a three-star admiral in preparing congressional reports and managing programming and budgeting for military facilities.
To support his professional ambitions, Mr. Colbert pursued a formal education at the University of Florida, earning a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering with a minor in applied mathematics in 1990, a Master of Engineering in civil engineering and construction management with a minor in real estate in 2004, and a Master of Science in electrical and computer engineering with a minor in mechanical engineering in 2005. Mr. Colbert’s leadership extended to roles such as officer-in-charge of Navy and Air Force construction contract offices at Naval Base Charleston and Shaw Air Force Bases from 2004 to 2006.
Born in Daytona Beach, Mr. Colbert fondly recalls helping facilitate the transition of individuals with technical and engineering backgrounds into specialized departments of the U.S. Navy, which directly led to his stellar career in construction management within the military. He also cites the opportunity to work on the year-long construction of a new five-story power plant in Nevada as a highlight of his career, as he believed this was a calling from God that would provide him with professional blessings in the years to come. Looking toward the future, Mr. Colbert hopes to advance into an executive position at a medium and large-sized utility company while leveraging his extensive expertise in a consulting position.
