With three decades of experience to this credit, Mr. Jewell has built a distinguished career in sports, education, and administration. Since 2024, he has served as a business development representative at BSN Sports and as assistant director at Atlanta Public Schools, a role he held from 2010 until his retirement in 2024. His extensive experience includes serving as director of athletics for Atlanta Public Schools from 2015 to 2023 and head football coach for the DeKalb County School District from 1995 to 2010. He also dedicates his time as a volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, which helps children realize their potential and build their futures, and Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit organization that helps families build and improve their homes.
Mr. Jewell has also held various leadership roles, including past president of the Georgia Athletic Directors Association, which assist athletic directors and coaches in developing student-athletes both in and out of the classroom, nurturing student-athletes to become productive citizens in our society and preparing student-athletes for a brighter future, and a member of the national board member of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. Laying a solid educational foundation, Mr. Jewell completed coursework in health, physical education, and fitness at Clark Atlanta University in 1994 and earned a Master of Arts in health and physical education and fitness from Jacksonville State University in 2002. He also holds the designation of certified master athletic administrator. Reflecting on his path, he attributes his career choice to his family of educators, including his mother, who was a classroom teacher, and his two aunts and uncle. A career highlight for him was forging partnerships with Atlanta’s professional teams and professors, which enabled him to establish academic coaching programs for his athletes. These initiatives secured approximately $12 million in funding for student-athletes to attend specific colleges through academic sports programs. Additionally, he takes great pride in his teams having excelled both in the classroom and on the field, winning numerous state championships. Additionally, he played a key role in the integration of cutting-edge technology through partnerships with the NFHS Network, and furthering these programs under his leadership.
Mr. Jewell is most proud of the relationships he cultivated over the years, which were instrumental in the success of his student-athletes and coaches. In light of his impressive undertakings, he earned numerous accolades, including induction into the Georgia Athletic Directors Association Hall of Fame in 2019, recognition as athletic director of the year in 2000, and finalist honors for chief of the year. Looking to the future, he aspires to advance into a management position at BSN Sports within and become one of the top sellers and goal achievers. His ultimate ambition is to continue building meaningful relationships and leave a lasting legacy for the Jewell name.
