Philip B. Plottel, founder of Telshire LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in entrepreneurship and real estate.
With over three and a half decades of experience, Mr. Plottel has established a successful career as an entrepreneur and in real estate, specializing in life sciences, energy management, facility management, and capital projects. Since 2010, he has served as founder and chief executive officer of Telshire LLC in the Greater Boston area. He describes his work in capital projects as a process of translating organizational or client needs into actionable plans that resonate with diverse stakeholders. This requires bridging communication gaps by tailoring technical information to each audience. For instance, senior executives need high-level summaries, construction teams require precise details like wall placement, scientists focus on functionality, finance teams prioritize costs, and architects and engineers consider materials and structural integrity. By addressing each stakeholder’s specific interests and concerns, he ensures that projects are effectively communicated and collaboratively executed.
Mr. Plottel’s experience includes serving as senior director of global real estate and facilities at ARIAD Pharmaceuticals, Inc., now Takeda Pharmaceuticals U.S.A., Inc., from 2012 to 2017, global head of design and engineering at Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research Inc., now Novartis Biomedical Research, from 2002 to 2010. His earlier roles include principal consultant at PwC Consulting, PwC from 1998 to 2002, senior structural engineer at Parsons Brinckerhoff, now WSP, from 1993 to 1996, structural engineer at Robert Silman Associates, now TYLin, from 1992 to 1993, and engineer at Hardesty & Hanover LLP, now H&H from 1988 to 1990. He laid a solid educational foundation, earning a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Columbia University in 1988, a Master of Science in engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in 1991, and a Master of Business Administration in finance and strategy from the Yale School of Management in 1998.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Plottel dedicates his time as a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and has served as an appointed commissioner on the Economic Development Commission for the City of Newton since 2004, where he was chair from 2020 to 2023. In light of his impressive undertakings, he has been recognized with the Outstanding Volunteer Leadership Award from the Yale School of Management, and he was interviewed by The Wall Street Journal in 2014. Reflecting on his path before founding Telshire, he served at Novartis, where he led real estate and facilities for the research division, primarily based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His work extended globally, managing projects in Shanghai, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland. His most notable achievement was establishing the research headquarters in Cambridge while working at Novartis.
In advising aspiring professionals, Mr. Plottel emphasizes the importance of translating concepts between industries. Additionally, with extensive experience in the built environment, he focuses on clearly articulating requirements so that architects, engineers, builders, and finance professionals can collaborate effectively. For him, the most fulfilling aspect of his work is enabling others to be productive, particularly within the life sciences sector, where his efforts contribute to the development of life-saving therapies and treatments. Looking to the future, he plans to continue his current work, which he finds both meaningful and enjoyable.
