Based in Washington, D.C., Mr. Sweeney focuses on the public sector on the global cities, transportation, and infrastructure team while working with clients on the digital future of critical public infrastructure. He also leads the firm’s intelligent program, where he works on multimodal applications for technology and digital technology. Moreover, he manages technology implementation and strategy development and liaises for Accenture.

Beginning his career as a ROW engineer and asset assistant at SEPTA in 2013, Mr. Sweeney continually progressed into engineer I from 2014 to 2016. Subsequently, he became an engineer at McDonough Bolyard Peck between 2016 and 2018 while simultaneously serving as the firm’s deputy project director from 2016 to 2021. Among other noteworthy roles, Mr. Sweeney became a lead engineer at McDonough Bolyard Peck between 2018 and 2022.

Highly educated in preparation for his future, Mr. Sweeney obtained a Bachelor of Science in transportation and civil engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 2014 and a Master of Business Administration from Georgetown University with a specialization in real estate economic development and smart city investments in 2021. Furthermore, Mr. Sweeney has advanced his career through various LinkedIn credentials in project management, strategic planning and urban design foundations. He also holds certification through the Construction Management Association of America.

Adding to his professional expertise, Mr. Sweeney has been active in the Construction Management Association of America, the Intelligent Transportation Society of America, and the American Association of Cost Engineering (AACE). He is also an elected fellow of the World Economic Forum, an international advocacy non-governmental organization and think tank based in Switzerland. Civically, Mr. Sweeney has volunteered with Marine Conservation Clean Up Drives and the 11th Street Bridge Project and has been engaged in various initiatives through his church. Moreover, he has worked with nonprofits like Habitat for Humanity and the Nature Conservancy, providing valuable support and problem-solving.

A well-written writer, Mr. Sweeney’s research has resulted in several publications with the World Economic Forum. He authored “Vancouver Shows How Cities Can Develop Better Infrastructure Planning and Development” in 2023 and co-authored “Implementing a Life-Cycle Approach to Infrastructure: A Policy Roadmap for Cities” in 2024. He was also a keynote speaker at the AACE Symposium and Barcelona’s Smart City World Congress event.

In light of his success, Mr. Sweeney was recognized with Second Place in an Accenture Oracle Contest. His expertise in urban infrastructure and transportation planning has been pivotal to his success. He also attributes his wife’s support and exposure to the construction and manufacturing sectors while coming of age because of his family’s business and his mother’s small, woman-owned construction company. Additionally, several individuals he has met while working on various projects and programs have significantly impacted him.

Eager for the future of his career, Mr. Sweeney’s goals entail becoming a key leader in the transformation plan of a specific city or urban region. He has previously contributed to transformation projects in smaller capacities but envisions playing a more central role, particularly in developing countries where cities are rapidly growing and require proper infrastructure, resources and long-term planning.
