Mr. Walker’s career also included significant contributions at Ford Motor Company. As the director of design at the D-Ford Global Vehicle Innovation Lab from 2020 to 2021, he led multidisciplinary teams in pioneering new mobility solutions. Between 2018 and 2020, he directed design for Ford Autonomous Vehicles and Mobility, focusing on future-forward transportation concepts. From 2017 to 2018, Mr. Walker excelled as the global advanced strategic design chief for interior and exterior design, shaping the company’s vision for next-generation vehicles. Earlier, as the chief interior designer for The Lincoln Motor Company between 2016 and 2018, Mr. Walker played a pivotal role in redefining luxury automotive interiors.
Among other leading roles, Mr. Walker worked for companies like Jeep at FCA Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (now Stellantis NV), in various roles, culminating as its chief interior designer, where he influenced the direction of one of the world’s most iconic automotive brands. Meanwhile, his international experience included a tenure at Peugeot and Citroen interiors at PSA Peugeot Citroën in Shanghai, China, following a stint at General Motors in Melbourne, Australia, which included a period that included participation in a car program in China.
Mr. Walker’s early career featured a formative chapter at Lear Corporation beginning in 1999. Initially serving as a creative designer and later as a design manager until 2006, he was instrumental in establishing Lear’s Asia business from a design perspective. From 2004 to 2006, he spent three years in Seoul, South Korea, launching automotive design operations across the Asia Pacific region. This bold move marked the start of his international career and shaped his approach to leadership in multicultural environments. Mr. Walker began his professional journey as a creative designer for interiors at General Motors in Detroit in 1998.
During his tenure in the field, Mr. Walker also served as an adjunct professor of transportation design at the College for Creative Studies from 2011 to 2024, where he mentored aspiring designers and maintained close ties with the academic community. He also dedicated two decades as a disc jockey, reflecting his passion for music and creativity beyond traditional professional boundaries.
Mr. Walker’s academic background has been foundational to his success. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in industrial design from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, graduating in 1998. He also completed a Master of Business Administration from the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 2019, equipping him with advanced business acumen that complements his technical expertise. Committed to lifelong learning and innovation, Mr. Walker has completed several certifications through IDEO U in such areas as storytelling and designing strategy, further enhancing his ability to drive creative solutions and foster dynamic teams.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Mr. Walker has been civically engaged as a board member with Teach For America Detroit from 2018 to 2020.
