Andrew James Dillon, JD

Title: Executive Director and Senior Lead Compliance Officer
Company: Wells Fargo
Location: Huntersville, North Carolina, United States

Andrew James Dillon, JD, Executive Director and Senior Lead Compliance Officer at Wells Fargo, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements and leadership in Law and Technology.

Mr. Dillon’s professional journey spans over 25 years and reflects a commitment to excellence in controls and monitoring within the financial services industry. Since 2016, he has served as an executive director and senior lead compliance officer at Wells Fargo. In this capacity, he works as a records coordinator, user access coordinator and EUCP end-user computing tool coordinator. He ensures appropriate entitlements for SharePoint and shared drives while maintaining proper documentation for EUCT. Mr. Dillon also manages time for special projects within the compliance risk measurement and monitoring team, focusing on transformation efforts and providing data to senior executives and the board. Furthermore, he mentors two individuals through Wells Fargo’s corporate risk and enterprise mentoring programs, meeting biweekly and serving as a subject matter expert in multiple workstreams.

Over the past decade at Wells Fargo, Mr. Dillon has served in other capacities. His earlier positions included operational risk consultant from 2016 to 2017, operational risk manager between 2017 and 2018, and senior compliance consultant from 2018 to 2019. Each role allowed Mr. Dillon to develop his skills in controls, monitoring and compliance, areas in which he is now regarded as an expert.

In 2019, Mr. Dillon served as a senior operational risk manager at Wells Fargo, overseeing the implementation of a second-line-of-defense function and joining a specialized team conducting targeted reviews requested by the board or senior leadership. Between 2019 and 2020, he held the role of business risk and control manager and vice president. From 2020 to 2022, Mr. Dillon was both a vice president and compliance officer at Wells Fargo, where he continued to build on his expertise in regulatory compliance.

In addition to his commitments at Wells Fargo, Mr. Dillon founded Dillon Advisory in 2026. Through this venture, he provides strategic guidance on compliance matters for clients navigating complex regulatory environments.

Before joining Wells Fargo, Mr. Dillon worked as an operational risk consultant with Management Resources at Robert Half Inc. from 2015 to 2016. This role followed his tenure at Huron, where he worked for over five years as a contract attorney and eDiscovery specialist between 2009 and 2015. At Huron, Mr. Dillon developed a knack for analyzing large datasets that enabled him to quickly identify disparities and trends, a skill that continues to inform his current work in compliance and legal project management.

Mr. Dillon’s legal experience began during law school when he interned with the Macon-Bibb County public attorney’s office in 2008. Working in both the juvenile and property divisions provided valuable perspective. While the juvenile division exposed him to difficult realities that prompted a shift toward less stressful environments, Mr. Dillon’s work in the property division contributed to setting a precedent in Georgia permitting homeless individuals to list shelters or soup kitchens as their addresses.

Apart from his full-time work, Mr. Dillon was an adjunct professor of business law and management ethics at Southern Wesleyan University from 2014 to 2020. Before acquiring his law degree, he worked as an included audit manager at Concord Hospitality between 2000 and 2006. Among other opportunities, Mr. Dillon excelled as a tax professional with H&R Block from 2013 to 2015.

Mr. Dillon’s educational background has been instrumental throughout his career. He completed a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and religious studies at UNC Charlotte in 2000 after initial coursework in music composition at Appalachian State University. He then earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence with advanced certificates in legal writing, law and public service from Mercer University in 2009.

A defining moment in Mr. Dillon’s legal education occurred during his final year of law school in an advanced litigation class. As a defense attorney in a mock trial involving a tragic incident that resulted in a death, he argued persuasively that his client was not entirely responsible for the circumstances. The district attorney present would later handle the actual case. Mr. Dillon’s performance contributed to removing the death penalty from consideration for the young man involved, a milestone that remains one of his proudest achievements.

Demonstrating a commitment to lifelong learning, Mr. Dillon has pursued non-certifiable education through free online courses from institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University. These efforts have enhanced his technological acumen amid rapid industry changes. Mr. Dillon also holds several certifications relevant to emerging technologies from LinkedIn since 2025, particularly in the areas of generative artificial intelligence (AI).

Mr. Dillon is an active member of the Risk Management Association and the American Bankers Association, professional affiliations that reflect his ongoing engagement with industry standards and best practices. Civic engagement is another hallmark of his life outside of work. Mr. Dillon serves as table leader with Children’s Hope Alliance, volunteers with Bags of Hope and participates actively within his local church community.

Throughout his career progression, Mr. Dillon has credited much of his success to advice received from his father that he should always focus on one thing at a time. Notably, his ability to engage others through strong communication skills has been enhanced by personal experiences navigating neurodivergence. This trait enables Mr. Dillon to swiftly understand complex information and adapt effectively within dynamic environments.

Looking ahead, Mr. Dillon aims to remain indispensable within his organization by leveraging expertise as both a compliance AI superuser and training resource for multiple teams, a role he embraced after recognizing the importance of human involvement alongside AI solutions. He anticipates expanding advisory work significantly while seeking opportunities to publish fiction books that merge creative expression with professional insight.
