Mr. Patel began his career as a project manager engineering specialist II for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality in 2018, where he focused on industrial and hazardous waste permits in Texas. He then served as a technical engineering specialist III from 2019 to 2021. During this period, he contributed to the oversight of federal and state-run programs and other initiatives.

During his tenure with the organization, Mr. Patel simultaneously served as a technical coordinator and engineering specialist IV at the Railroad Commission of Texas in Austin in 2023. This role further broadened his expertise in regulatory compliance and environmental investigations within the state’s energy sector.

Earlier in his career, between 2016 and 2018, Mr. Patel was a research engineering scientist and associate at the University of Texas at Arlington, contributing to scientific studies that informed environmental policy and best practices for public drinking water. From 2014 to 2015, Mr. Patel was a lead field logging geologist IV and hazardous materials shipper driver at Horizon Well Logging Inc. in Midland, Texas. Additionally, between 2013 and 2015, Mr. Patel worked as a freelance GIS mapping and modeling consultant.

Among other noteworthy opportunities, Mr. Patel served as an emergency dispatcher, public safety officer and driver for University Heights Association Inc., gaining valuable experience in crisis management and public safety operations from 2010 to 2014. Earlier, he worked at Cooperstown Dreams Park in Cooperstown, New York, as a warehouse supervisor between 2001 and 2009, after initially serving as a keyholder at Steve & Barry’s in Albany, New York, from 2007 to 2008.

Mr. Patel’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in earth and geological sciences from State University of New York Plattsburgh and a bachelor’s degree in psychology with coursework in public health education and counseling psychology from the University at Albany. These academic achievements provided him with a multidisciplinary perspective that has proven invaluable throughout his career. In addition to his formal education, Mr. Patel has earned numerous additional professional credentials and certifications that have enhanced his capabilities as an environmental leader, including several from OSHA, as well as a Lean Six Sigma yellow belt from Dartmouth College, ELMS problem solving corps certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and, among others, a certificate in strategic communications from the Center for Professional Education at the University of Texas at Austin and a postgraduate program certificate in data science and business analytics from McCombs school of business at the University of Texas at Austin. Each credential has contributed specific technical or managerial skills relevant to Mr. Patel’s evolving responsibilities.

Throughout his professional tenure, Mr. Patel has maintained active membership in several industry-related organizations, including the Austin Geological Society, the Permian Basin section of the Society of Economic Paleontologists and Mineralogists, the Society for Sedimentary Geology, the West Texas Geological Society and, among others, the American International Group Inc. These affiliations have supported his ongoing professional development while providing opportunities for collaboration across disciplines.

Outside professional pursuits, Mr. Patel enjoys reading about advances in water technologies, researching developments, desalination projects and attending industry events, all activities which keep him abreast of the latest trends and innovations shaping the future field. He also supports his child’s educational and extracurricular endeavors alongside broader commitments, like community outreach and local environmental cleanup efforts alongside employer-sponsored programs.

Mr. Patel’s expertise in environmental law and compliance is widely recognized within his field. He became involved in his profession out of a strong commitment to clean drinking water, a conviction shaped by college studies in hydrology and geology, where he learned firsthand about water’s critical value relative to other resources like gasoline. Early work experiences within oil and gas further reinforced Mr. Patel’s sense of responsibility toward protecting natural resources while integrating insights gained from colleagues specializing in environmental law.

Looking ahead, Mr. Patel aims to develop artificial intelligence automation tools to ease staff workloads while bridging gaps between traditional processes and emerging technologies within regulatory frameworks. He also intends to expand influence beyond drinking water into broader areas, such as environmental sustainability and emerging contaminants, while maintaining focus on long-term sustainability and responsible stewardship practices statewide and globally.
