Dorothea “Dodie” Mosby, MPA, Retired Municipal Official, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in local government.
With nearly 30 years of professional experience in local government, Ms. Mosby retired from her position as the director of the parks and recreation department for the City of South Gate, CA, in 2002, having first acquired the position in 1991. Prior to this role, she worked with the City of Santa Monica and City of San Jose in various positions, including business administrator of cultural and recreation services and business superintendent, recreation supervisor, senior recreation leader, neighborhood center director, and assistant department personnel officer of the parks and recreation department, beginning in 1973. Although retired, she continues to work as a part-time donor relations officer at Taft College.
To prepare for her career, Ms. Mosby pursued a formal education, earning an Associate of Arts in sociology from Bakersfield College in 1969, a Bachelor of Science in recreation administration from San Jose State University in 1972, and a Master of Public Administration from California State University in 1982. She has since been certified as a park and leisure professional by the National Recreation and Park Association and the California Board of Recreation and Park Certification, Inc.
In recognition of her exceptional accomplishments, Ms. Mosby was honored with the State Citation Award of Merit by the California Park and Recreation Society in 1999 and 2000. The recipient of the District X Special Recognition Award by the California Park and Recreation Society in 1997 and 1998, she was also named Outstanding Professional of the Year by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks in 1993 and 1995. Notably, she also helped build the Kern Veteran’s Memorial with the Kern Veteran’s Foundation in Bakersfield, CA. In addition, she was selected for inclusion in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the West, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of American Women.
