David Gwynne Campbell, Petroleum Executive and Geologist, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in petroleum and geology.
Growing up, Mr. Campbell spent an ample amount of time in the library, soaking in the riches offered in books about the sciences. This fascination fostered an interest in pursuing a career in science. After a mishap with phosphorous while exploring chemistry at age 13, he continued his studies in natural sciences, focusing in on geology. This interest, along with his high school teacher who also was an adjunct professor in geology at the University of Tulsa, cemented his trajectory in life. In 1995, when Mr. Campbell became a consultant, he brought more than 38 years of experience to the position. He gained this experience as the President of Earth Hawk Exploration, Inc., from 1980 to 1995, as Exploration Manager of Leede Exploration from 1977 to 1980, as a district geologist for Tenneco Oil Company from 1965 to 1977 and as a geologist for Lone Star Producing Company from 1957 to 1965.
In addition to these roles, Mr. Campbell has held a number of positions on advisory councils, boards of directors and committees. Since 1985, he has been an active member of the School of Geology and Geophysics Alumni at the University of Oklahoma. He has also been a member of the centennial committee and advisory council for the University of Oklahoma, and has held various positions within the council, as well as on its board of directors. Furthermore, Mr. Campbell served as a division exploration manager of PetroCorp.
Mr. Campbell first earned a Bachelor of Science in geology from Tulsa University in 1953. He continued at the University of Oklahoma, receiving a Master of Science in 1957. The officers in the American Association of Petroleum Geologists sensed that Mr. Campbell was dedicated and devoted to the profession, and they encouraged him to become involved with the politics of the industry. He became chairman of the House of Delegates and vice president of the organization, and ran for president. He is still a delegate of the institution. In his career, Mr. Campbell has received such recognition as the Legends Award from the Oklahoma Geological Foundation, the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University Award and the Spirit Award from the Elders Council of the Red Earth Indian Center among many other accolades. Out of all these honors, Mr. Campbell cites his marriage to his wife Janet as the highlight of his life and is happy to be celebrating more than six decades together.
