John A. Battilega, Ph.D., Research and Development Company Executive at Leidos Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of national defense.
With more than 55 years of professional experience, Dr. Battilega served as the president of John Battilega Associates from 1999 to 2004. He was a senior technical director of Science Applications International Corporation from 2004 to 2013. He has served as a senior technical director at Leidos Corporation since 2014. Prior to these illustrious roles, he was a corporate vice president, general manager and research director of the Science Applications International Corporation from 1973 to 1999, staff engineer with the Martin Marietta Corporation from 1971 to 1973, and a research assistant with the Sandia National Laboratory in 1965. He commenced his career as a research assistant for Tektronix, Inc., from 1961 to 1962.
Alongside his primary appointments, Dr. Battilega was an adjunct professor and senior lecturer at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver from 2000 to 2002, having also been a member of several advisory panels with the United States government in Washington, DC, since 1980 and a seminar developer of more than 200 seminars on national security and defense planning topics since 1973. Likewise, he has been a senior consultant for various United States government agencies and a lecturer at multiple defense and intelligence colleges such as the US Defense Intelligence College. A prolific author, he has further contributed myriad chapters to books, articles to professional journals, and research monographs.
Dr. Battilega served as a Major with the United States Army from 1963 to 1971, earning a Decorated Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, a Bronze Star, and a Meritorious Service Medal in recognition of his contributions. A longstanding member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, he holds a Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude, from Gonzaga University and a Doctor of Philosophy from Oregon State University. In addition, he was involved with the US Military Operations Research Society, serving on the board of directors from 1983 to 1985, and contributed as a member of such organizations as the Institute for Operations Research and Management Science and the International Institute of Strategic Studies. He has been highlighted in several editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in the World.
