Volker Treichel, PhD, Regional Economist at World Bank, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in finance.
Dr. Treichel always wanted to work for the World Bank. He was inspired to make a difference after traveling to Morocco and Ghana, where he witnessed the abundant poverty and just how much positive change developing a private sector could cause. In 1993, Dr. Treichel earned a PhD from Kiel University, which enabled him to begin his career. From 1993 until 2006, he gained experience as an economist, senior economist, and mission chief at the International Monetary Fund. By 2007, he was hired by the World Bank Group as the lead economist. In the years that followed, he took on multiple titles, including program leader, lead country economist, and principal economist, which he continues to hold today.
Outside of his primary ventures, Dr. Treichel is a gifted French horn player. In 2015, in recognition of his musical success, Dr. Treichel earned the 1st Prize Misbin Family Music Chambers Award. More recently, in 2017, he earned the 3rd Prize. He has additionally found success as an author. His most notable title is “Putting Nigeria to Work: A Strategy for Employment and Growth.” In Dr. Treichel’s spare time, he enjoys classical music, reading, and playing sports. Likewise, he loves spending time with his wife, Helga, and his two children, Kathrin and Isabel.
