Title: Certified Benefits Counselor and Disaster Response Counselor
Location: Levittown, Pennsylvania, United States
Barbara Hawes PhD, DRCC, Certified Benefits Counselor and Disaster Response Counselor, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in counseling.
Considering herself an “adrenaline junkie,” Dr. Hawes’ experience working in an emergency room sparked her career-long interest in mental health disorders. In 1993, she commenced her career as director of crisis prevention and stabilization services for Vesta Inc., MD, which she excelled at until her departure in 1998. Moving on, Dr. Hawes was deputy director of Crisis Response System in Maryland from 2000 to 2003 and the director of Resources for Human Development in Philadelphia from 2003 to 2004, as well as an independent consultant for disaster response for eight years until 2012. Presently, she has served as a disaster response counselor since 2012 and an independent certified benefits counselor since 2014. Helping people at a depth of emotional, psychological, and humanitarian realms, Dr. Hawes likes to switch up her areas of involvement due to her continuous desire to learn and keep current in her profession.
Dr. Hawes received a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and psychology from Roanoke College in 1977 and went on to study deaf education at the University of Virginia. She acquired a Master’s degree in counseling psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University and finally achieved a Doctor of Philosophy in clinical psychology from Charisma University in 2014. The recipient of numerous awards for crisis efforts from the Mental Health Association, Dr. Hawes attributes her success to her parents’ example, as well as a great deal of drive and focus. Backed by her patience, persistence, and listening skills, she enjoys serving as a volunteer for the COVID-19 hotline and with Vesta Inc. Dr. Hawes also maintains affiliation with the Psychiatric Nurses Association and Rotary International. In five years’ time, she hopes to begin writing her two books and get them published onto bookstands. The first book deals with caring for aging parents, while the second book is a lighthearted, whimsical tale.
