Jahangir J. Kabir, PhD, Vice President at GeoMechanics, Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in geotechnical engineering.
Having accrued 45 years of professional experience, Mr. Kabir has excelled as a vice president and senior geotechnical engineer for GeoMechanics, Inc. since 1990. He supervises a team of engineers, developing soil investigation programs; carrying out soil, rock and groundwater data collection; and analyzing subsurface conditions, among various other functions vital to the company. He previously gained valuable experience while working for 18 months for another firm based in the United States. Earlier, he commenced his career with a design and construction supervision team for marine structure projects in Bangladesh from 1977 to 1981.
Dr. Kabir earned a PhD in geotechnical engineering from Iowa State University of Science and Technology in 1988 and a master’s degree at Michigan Technological University in 1983. He obtained a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University in 1977. Notably, his PhD dissertation earned an award for best research from Iowa State University.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Kabir has played an instrumental role in the design and construction of a number of landmark civil engineering projects on behalf of government agencies in the United States and Bangladesh. He is particularly proud of the advisory role he played in the design and construction of two-mile-long underwater twin tunnels in Chattogram, and the evaluation and design of a subway system in Dhaka for the government of Bangladesh. He also takes great satisfaction in having designed an underground tunnel and transportation system in Pittsburgh.
Devoted to his community, Dr. Kabir volunteers through his local mosque and donates regularly to food drives and in helping the needy, specifically refugees from war affected areas. Looking toward the future, he intends to continue contributing to his field and act as a mentor for the next generation of engineers.
