Jacqueline Lewis, the founder and managing partner at Lewis & Associates LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of legal service.
Well-regarded for more than three decades of experience in her chosen field, Ms. Lewis leverages a wealth of expertise in her current role as the head of her law firm. Established in 1991, Lewis & Associates has risen to become Canada’s premier practitioner of immigration and refugee law. She has represented more than 2,000 clients seeking both permanent and temporary residency before the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada. In addition to 33 lawyers, the firm’s support staff boasts a number of interpreters and caseworkers fluent in a variety of languages, and liaises with various associations that offer accommodations and employment opportunities for future immigrants. In her capacity as a managing partner, Ms. Lewis oversees operations for the entire firm, and works diligently to ensure the culture of personalized service and tireless advocacy she created remains intact.
Outside of her primary efforts, Ms. Lewis is a past adjunct professor of immigration and refugee law, having taught at Western University from 2011 to 2014, and at Carleton University between 2005 and 2010. Additionally, she serves as the chair of the board of directors for Egale Canada, Canada’s leading 2SLGBTQI nonprofit organization. In honor of her singular commitment to justice and her work on behalf of the LGBT community, Ms. Lewis was proud to receive the Laura Legge Award from the Law Society of Ontario, which recognizes women who exemplify the best leadership qualities in their field and in the community. Likewise, she was honored with the 2023 Torch Bearers award gifted to those around the world who have inspired their nations, their cities and their communities through their own lives and deeds. She was also gratified to work with Egale Canada to spearhead the first LGBT shelter and transitional housing project in the city of Toronto.
Ms. Lewis first sought an education at York University, from which she earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1985. Following this accomplishment, she went on to what is now Western University, where she attained a Bachelor of Laws in 1989. Returning to York University, Ms. Lewis subsequently studied administrative law at the Osgoode Hall Law School, graduating with a Master of Law in 2001.
In addition to her vocational endeavors, Ms. Lewis earned distinction as the first woman to circumnavigate Prince Edward Island,. Likewise, she won seven medals for her skill in kayaking at the Canadian Masters Championship. In accounting for her success as a legal professional, Ms. Lewis largely credits her passion for diversity, as well as her dedication to hard work and a natural empathy for others. Looking toward the future, she aspires to pass on the firm to someone who can best sustain her legacy of inclusiveness and humanitarianism.
