Title: Product Innovation Strategist and Founder
Company: Hera Diagnostics Corporation
Location: Miami, Florida, United States
Noel León-Rovira, Product Innovation Strategist and Founder at Hera Diagnostics Corporation, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in product innovation.
With decades of experience to his credit, Mr. León-Rovira is renowned for his innovation across multiple industries as well as his stellar efforts in the field of engineering education. He began his career with the State Direction of Mechanization of Sugar Cane Agriculture in 1969, a pivotal experience that laid the foundation for his lifelong interest in agricultural machinery. By 1971, Mr. León-Rovira was involved in the project of designing plants for engine repair at an industrial scale at the Automotive Technical Center in Holguín, Cuba.
In 1972, Mr. León-Rovira relocated to Moscow, Russia, where he worked as a researcher in the Laboratory of Sugar Cane Harvesters at the Institute of Agricultural Mechanization. His research during this period focused on the mechanical harvesting of sugar cane, which would remain a central theme throughout his career. Between 1972 and 1975, Mr. León-Rovira was active in teaching theoretical mechanics, machine dynamics, and analysis of mechanisms at various institutions.
From 1976 to 1981, Mr. León-Rovira contributed to projects in Cuba and beyond, including the development of a new approach to pneumatic and transport cleaning in sugar cane harvesters. He also collaborated with Sugar Factory Urbano Noris in organizing the mechanical sugar cane harvest, adding practical experience to his growing expertise in agricultural machinery design. During this time, Mr. León-Rovira was also recruited to teach at the Technical University of Holguín, focusing on the mechanization of livestock facilities in 1977 and agricultural machine design from 1978 to 1983.
Between 1982 and 1989, Mr. León-Rovira served at the Technical University of Dresden as a postdoctoral researcher, focusing on creative design methods and computer-aided design (CAD). He also worked on developing CAD/CAM applications for design automation during this tenure. His work in design automation was pivotal, as it laid the groundwork for his later achievements in computer-aided engineering. He returned to the aforementioned later to complete both his master’s and doctorate degrees in engineering, further solidifying his academic credentials.
In the years that followed, Mr. León-Rovira became involved in training and certifying professionals in TRIZ, a problem-solving methodology that focuses on inventive innovation. In 1996, he was distinguished as the first Latin American expert to be certified in TRIZ by Ideation International Inc. His involvement with TRIZ continued throughout his career, as he has trained and advised more than 3,000 engineers, technicians, and managers in implementing TRIZ and quality function deployment (QFD).
Mr. León-Rovira found further success teaching product design for engineers, computer-aided engineering, and product designs for managers at the Tecnológico de Monterrey (ITESM) from 1993 until his retirement in 2019. His teaching spanned disciplines and decades, with his longest teaching terms being in computer-aided engineering from 1995 to 2011 and product design for engineers from 1996 to 2019. He also coordinated the Autodesk and Pro-Engineer training centers at ITESM, helping to shape future generations of engineers through hands-on experience in leading design technologies.
In addition to his endeavors in the classroom, Mr. León-Rovira excelled greatly in product development. In 2004, he developed a polishing machine for complex surfaces, a significant achievement in mechanical engineering. He also conducted finite element method (FEM) analysis on various industrial projects, including the design of a plastic beer box and the redesign of railway brake beams and soda boxes for major companies like Acertek and Mexican Technical Plastics. Mr. León-Rovira has further thrived as the founder and product innovation strategist of Hera Diagnostics Corporation, a Delaware-based company.
Mr. León-Rovira has been celebrated with myriad accolades over the years, including the Romulo Garza Award for Innovation in 2013 and the INC-Monterrey Award for the Mexican Professor with the Most Patents Issued in 2014. He previously received recognition for developing energy-efficient technologies, such as an ultralow-energy lamp based on LEDs and a vacuum-flat solar collector, both of which earned recognition from the governor of Nuevo León, Mexico, in 2007. Now designated as a professor emeritus at ITESM, his influence continues to be felt through the generations of engineers he has mentored and the innovations he has helped bring to life. Looking toward the future, Mr. León-Rovira plans to focus on further developing methods for sugar cane harvesting, continuing the work that has defined much of his illustrious career.
