With 10 years of experience driving him forward, Mr. Sever has served as the vice president of culinary experience at Experience Senior Living LLC since 2022. In this role, he oversees every aspect of food service in the organization, from budgeting to menu creation to sanitation. Mr. Sever leads a team of 11 chefs, ensuring that their work is up to his high standard of quality. While the company’s home office is in Denver, he works with locations across the United States, including Florida, Indiana, Ohio and Virginia. Mr. Sever is also supporting Experience Senior Living LLC in its plans to expand to even more locations in the future.
Before joining Experience Senior Living LLC, Mr. Sever held the position of senior executive chef at Balfour Senior Living for several years. He continued improving his skills as an executive chef at the University of Denver. Mr. Sever initially transitioned into the role of executive chef with MorningStar Senior Living in 2014. His early career found him learning the basics of fine dining while working in country clubs and ski resort restaurants.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Sever sought an education that would equip him with the essential skills of his craft. He completed a two-year apprenticeship with the American Culinary Federation (ACF) in 2009. Subsequently, Mr. Sever earned certification from the ACF as a culinary executive chef. As part of his commitment to his field, he is an active member of Lachine Rotisseries, through which he stays updated on the latest trends in the industry.
Known for his contributions as a civic-minded citizen, Mr. Sever is involved with multiple nonprofit organizations. Most notably, he serves as the board president and apprenticeship chair for Rocky Mountain Chefs of Colorado. Additionally offering his insight as an instructor for this organization, Mr. Sever helps train the next generation of chefs, working in collaboration with the Red Rocks Community College and the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment. Students who complete the program also earn culinary certification through the ACF. Mr. Sever is also a longtime supporter of the Parkinson’s Foundation.
Mr. Sever has garnered numerous awards throughout his career. The ACF has honored him with three bronze medals and one silver medal. In 2022, Mr. Sever was presented with the Dr. L.J. Minor Chef Professionalism Award for the Western region by the ACF. This accolade reflects his dedication to high standards in education, training and community engagement. Mr. Sever attributes his success to the guidance he received from mentors throughout his life, as well as the strong influence of his father. He also points to the freedom and trust he has been granted to shape menus and offer the best food possible.
Beyond his professional life, Mr. Sever is a devoted father to three children. In his free time, he enjoys skiing, traveling, and eating great food from other chefs. Mr. Sever is proud to have had the chance to dine at restaurants owned by chefs he considers among his greatest inspirations, including Gordon Ramsay, Jose Andres, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Patrick Clark and Thomas Keller. Looking ahead, he is hard at work on a new initiative to incorporate organic products into Experience Senior Living communities. Mr. Sever has been carefully researching this new project and is eager to move forward with it. He also looks forward to continuing to add to his excellent culinary team as the company grows.
