She also made history as the first Filipino woman to become a partner at PwC in Los Angeles, where she served from 2011 to 2015. Her journey with PwC began in 2002 when she joined as a director, a position she held until her promotion to partner. Earlier in her career, Ms. Werner gained valuable experience as a senior associate at BDO Seidman in Los Angeles between 1996 and 1997.
Ms. Werner’s success in academia began during her tenure as an assistant professor at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles from 2015 to 2018. This initial faculty position enabled her to make significant contributions to academic discourse while mentoring students and was instrumental in her subsequent success at Pasadena City College.
Shaping her remarkable career, Ms. Werner received a bachelor’s degree in accounting, a Master of Business Taxation and a Master of Business Tax from the University of Southern California (USC). These educational accomplishments laid a strong foundation for her expertise and success in the industry. In recognition of her academic excellence, Ms. Werner was named to the dean’s list during her studies at USC.
Ms. Werner’s professional journey is complemented by her active involvement in her professional community and through civic initiatives. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, demonstrating her dedication to upholding high standards within her profession. She has also been actively involved with Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary School through various committees and events, notably chairing Family Fun Night from 2016 to 2017 and participating in fundraising efforts between 2020 and 2021. Ms. Werner’s involvement with organizations such as The World Food Bank and Mayfield Senior School further exemplifies her dedication to community service and philanthropy. Earlier, she served as a faculty advisor for the USC Asian American Business Association between 2016 and 2018, chaired the national executive board of the International Society of Filipinos in Finance and Accounting from 2013 to 2016, and was a faculty mentor at the University of Southern California between 2012 and 2017.
Reflecting on her career, Ms. Werner’s philosophy centers on identifying joy and maintaining a positive mindset, which she attributes as key factors in her success. This outlook has also enabled her to appreciate her achievements while continuously striving for growth and new opportunities. Ms. Werner’s future aspirations include assisting individuals with grief and tax planning and potentially pursuing a law degree to advocate for tax foundations before legislative bodies.
