Under Mr. Simmons’s leadership, Recovery Oriented Practices has grown from its initial outpatient focus to offer a comprehensive continuum of care, including both outpatient and residential services across North Carolina and South Carolina.
As the executive director, Mr. Simmons oversees daily operations, manages financial planning and scaling efforts, and maintains direct engagement with clients. The organization employs approximately 15 staff members and serves between 100 and 150 clients annually, with outpatient services supporting about 50 to 100 individuals at any given time. While the residential program is currently classified as outpatient care, it features a three-bed unit with expansion plans. Mr. Simmons is actively working to increase capacity by adding six additional beds and launching peer support services.
A hallmark of Mr. Simmons’s professional journey is his commitment to quality and accountability. Recovery Oriented Practices has achieved accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), maintaining a 98% approval rating for service implementation and strategic planning directives. This accomplishment stands as Mr. Simmons’s most significant professional achievement, reflecting his dedication to excellence in client care and organizational management.
Mr. Simmons began his career in 2007 as a part-time employee at a local health care agency, where he provided intensive outpatient care for children. Recognizing the importance of representation and driven by a sense of duty to serve underserved communities, he pursued certification as a substance abuse professional in 2010. In 2014, Mr. Simmons expanded his expertise by providing case management services in South Carolina, which enabled him to broaden his practice to include peer support services, community networking and community-supported employment.
A graduate of Florida A&M University, Mr. Simmons earned a bachelor’s degree in 2005. He credits his success to education, mentorship, hard work and dedication, all of which have shaped his approach to leadership and client advocacy. Currently, Mr. Simmons is pursuing a master’s degree in social work at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, with anticipated completion in 2027.
Mr. Simmons is an active member of the National Association of Addiction Counselors in North Carolina and maintains affiliation with CARF, further underscoring his commitment to professional standards and ongoing development. Beyond his professional responsibilities, he is deeply involved in civic initiatives. He supports Block Love Charlotte and contributes to organizations focused on preventing domestic violence. Through Recovery Oriented Practices, Mr. Simmons’s philanthropic efforts include donating at least 150 backpacks, sneakers, winter coats and year-round clothing annually to those in need.
Throughout his career, Mr. Simmons has demonstrated expertise in substance abuse treatment, earning recognition as an expert in the field. His future goals encompass expanding Recovery Oriented Practices by increasing residential capacity and launching new peer support programs while continuing to manage a multifaceted behavioral health clinic that integrates both residential units and outpatient care.
