Mr. Svabek’s career spans four decades and is marked by expertise in federal acquisition and procurement. For the past 10 years, he has owned and served as the chief executive officer of Svabek Consulting LLC in Leesburg, Virginia. In this capacity, he consults with a diverse range of clients, including medical staffing firms, information technology companies and other consulting organizations. His work centers on helping clients expand into the federal market, with a particular emphasis on defense health, military health and Veterans Affairs. Mr. Svabek manages client relationships, coordinates projects and frequently conducts remote meetings while also traveling to client sites throughout Northern Virginia.

Since 2016, Mr. Svabek has also served as the director of tactical operations at Grace & Associates in Leesburg, Virginia. Through a unique arrangement, he is a W-2 employee of his own company while serving as a 1099 consultant to Grace & Associates. This structure allows Mr. Svabeck to focus on delivering value to clients without the administrative burdens of direct contracting or accounts receivable management.

From 2013 to 2015, Mr. Svabek excelled as the director of procurement and head of contracting activity for the Defense Health Agency in Falls Church, Virginia. In this role, he managed an obligation budget exceeding $15 billion and led the agency’s acquisition workforce.

Between 2008 and 2013, Mr. Svabek served as the commander of the Army Medical Command’s contracting activity within the U.S. Department of Defense. He oversaw hospital operations and championed initiatives to increase employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities in services such as housekeeping and laundry. Under Mr. Svabek’s leadership, these programs expanded from two hospitals to nine, significantly advancing nonprofit employment efforts.

Mr. Svabek’s earlier tenure was distinguished by his roles as a program manager for medical logistics at OSD Health Affairs from 2005 to 2008 and as an advisor embedded with the Coalition Provisional Authority at Iraq’s Ministry of Health in Baghdad between 2003 and 2004. While in Baghdad, he played a pivotal role in rebuilding medical logistics and supply chains following the fall of Saddam Hussein. Mr. Svabek worked closely with Iraqi partners to establish transparent international contracting processes and combat corruption, an experience he later chronicled in two articles published by the National Contract Management Association’s Journal of Contract Management.

Having served nearly three decades in the military, Mr. Svabek’s service was extensive and distinguished. He retired as a full colonel from the U.S. Army in 2006. His career began as a cadet and platoon leader with the Illinois National Guard from 1985 to 1987, before he was commissioned as a medical service corps officer in 1987. Mr. Svabek served with the 101st Airborne Division and deployed during Operation Desert Storm from 1990 to 1991.

Mr. Svabek’s academic background laid a strong foundation for his career achievements. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1987 and a Master of Arts in procurement and acquisition from Webster University in 1999. Encouraged by his high school gymnastics coach to apply for financial aid, Mr. Svabek attended college on a Pell Grant before discovering his path through Army ROTC, a chance encounter that set him on course for military leadership and public service.

Beyond his education, Mr. Svabek’s professional affiliations reflect his commitment to industry advancement and public service. He is presently a member of Information Management Solutions, the Loudoun Medical Reserve Corps, and the Armed Forces Communication and Electronics Association.

Aside from his professional pursuits, Mr. Svabek has demonstrated ongoing civic engagement through volunteerism with charitable golf events and nonprofit organizations. He served on the board of advisors for MileMarker10 in Washington, D.C., for several years and volunteered for mobile COVID-19 vaccine programs through the Loudoun Medical Reserve Corps.

For his contributions to the U.S. Department of Defense, Mr. Svabek received the AbilityOne Champion of the Year award. His military tenure also earned him several notable distinctions. He was awarded the Combat Action Badge during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was also decorated with a Legion of Merit, two Bronze Star Medals, one National Meritorious Service Medal and seven Army Meritorious Service Medals.

Throughout his life and career, Mr. Svabek has consistently demonstrated resilience, expertise and an unwavering dedication to helping others succeed. These qualities have earned him recognition among peers and clients alike within federal acquisition, military service and beyond.

Looking ahead, Mr. Svabek is considering winding down his consulting business to return to federal service as a civilian or continue contributing through contracting or industry partnerships. He remains committed to strong leadership grounded in integrity and organizational success, while seeking continued opportunities to help others achieve their goals.
